End Master's Pointless Quiz

It's just one question.

Which of the following is the worst idea for a CYOA?

A. You are a Nazi Death Camp Guard

B. You are a Complete Pedophile

C. You are an AIDS Crack Whore

D. You are a Suicide Bomber

Remember, YOU MUST CHOOSE! It's really important. I'll explain why later.

Bonus points if you explain your reasoning.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

C. Because you will have to go into great detail of how you got your day to day life and then upon that your addiction to crack

End Master's Pointless Quiz

C: because you have aids, and you're a crack whore, it's pretty much going to be the most predictable and stupidly gory (unlike smartly gory) out of all the options. You'll either end up dead (actually chances are you'll end up dead no matter what) or you'll recover from your addiction and become a nun, there's really not much to base anything on. Also most people just wouldn't like to play a crack whore.

Also if it's a pointless quiz how are we getting points? (wordplay FTW)

End Master's Pointless Quiz

But the German guard and the pedophile more than likely wont end up dead. If the guard just gives up the allies will just take him to court and the pedo well he's just a pedo

End Master's Pointless Quiz

D:

Your far more likely to die since that's kind of what your character is made to do. Not saying dieing in a CYOA game is a bad thing. It's just that the story would be really, really short.

That and the choice makes a frown.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

But the lead up to it could make it interesting and the bomb could malfunction

End Master's Pointless Quiz

possible endings...

1. You succed and die

2. You fail and die

3. You succed until you push the button, in which the bomb malfuctions and you still die anyways.

4. All mortals die in the end so if you somehow survive the bomb-explosion at point-blank range you will still die from being a mortal. :)

Still I can't disagree with the actual story making it interesting.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

Or just go along with it he turns good or the bomb doesn't explode at all

End Master's Pointless Quiz

No reason to think it's short. The story coud be you getting to the site of the bombing, not neccesarily having first choice be an explosion. Especially with Endmaster at the helm.

B

Because I think you're going to pick the one we vote as the worst, so reverse psychology!

For explanations:

- D would always have the same ending, so it's boring

- A would just involve creative ways of killing people, you've done plenty of that.

- C would be after B, but drugs are bad mkay.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I would have to go for C.

I mean, can't it get any more interesting with you having AIDs and a crack addiction?  I wonder what's it like being on the prostitute end of the spectrum...

End Master's Pointless Quiz

D I agree with Fireplay. The story would be way to short

End Master's Pointless Quiz

"No reason to think it's short. The story coud be you getting to the site of the bombing, not neccesarily having first choice be an explosion. Especially with Endmaster at the helm." Now that I think about it, he could involve a whole backstory as to why you developed into a suicide bomber.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

C, because it doesn't have a point, like A, which has a point (a sharp one at the top), B (a not so sharp one at top and bottom) and D(which like B, has 2 points at the top and bottom). After all, it's Endmaster's POINTLESS quiz, so the answer is the one with no point.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

C

you have AIDS and you are a whore so you cant pay for treatment.Plus you are addicted to crack which is certainly not helping. So you are still a whore to pay for your crack and spending money you could be saving for curing your aids. All choices seem bad.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

What're ya, 17 or 18?

End Master's Pointless Quiz

A. You are a Nazi Death Camp Guard - Could be a very interesting game. Historical aspect; possible redemption aspect; or just plain cathartic brutality aspect; Likely to specifically offend Jewish players without a possible redemption aspect though...

B. You are a Complete Pedophile - Would be very hard to care about the "protagonist" here and play would either offend the player greatly (or encourage abhorrent fantasies in a select few)...

C. You are an AIDS Crack Whore - Could be an interesting game, depending on the plot-based activities of the protagonist. Possible redemption aspect; cathartic aspect; Likely to specifically offend women, but certainly not all...

D. You are a Suicide Bomber - Could be an interesting and fun game, depending on the tone. A parodic tone for example, could be very entertaining, with a bumbling bomber having to go through incredibly extreme measures and spectacular failures before finally getting it right and "winning" the game. A straight forward tone would likely be offensive to most and provide little empathy for the "protagonist"...

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I'm going to say that B is the worst idea, on account of the fact that you would not be able to describe the actions of the protagonist in visceral detail (at least not on this site), thereby dooming the story to a lack of detail.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

So the majority think B&C will fail? A&D could make interesting storys?

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I actually think C is the best idea. It practically guarantees a conflict between the reasonable, rational, Apollonian side of human nature (as supplied by the player of the game who must try to make the best choices) and the Dionysian side (as represented by the protagonist's addiction to crack). The rational mind has to deal with illogical circumstances - why did I start using crack? Why do I continue to use crack when it is a detriment to my physical health, which directly impacts my ability to turn tricks? This is the foundation of great tragedy.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

In Endmaster's game, being last place IS winning.

All according to plan :D

Highlight for a story:

A story about a Zoophiliac who raises cats and well, you can guess what he does with them. Actually, in the spirit of CYS, let the player choose what animal they raise.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I don't think I wanna change it, I'm sure you can find a way to make a disease-riddled prostitute entertaining, only I think it's what would bring the least entertaining choices out of the four, and therefor the "worst" storygame.

Worst storygame: The tragic story of a Dendrophiliac and his oak wife. The dendrophiliac realizes that the world will never understand his love, and he launches a crusade to chop down the residents of a nearby logging community until he's gunned down and sent to join his wooden soulmate.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I do believe I can devise several themes worse than any of these.

1. You play as some sort of overbearing, moral guardian-type parent trying to prevent your child from being exposed to anything remotely violent and/or sexual by trying to force its censorship. On every page, there is an explicit description of whatever depraved/gory/pornographic thing you're crusading against at that particular moment. Obviously, every player will hate this story, because normal people will have no interest in having to play the role of an overzealous moral guardian; whereas actual moral guardians will no doubt be disgusted by the amount of filth included in the story.

2. A linguistics puzzle gone horribly awry: every individual letter in every word in the entire storygame is from a different language. Not only would this be completely incomprehensible to all but the most hardcore of geniuses, but it would also be a nightmare to write, as the author would have to be careful to make sure that each letter in the encrypted word comes from a word of equal length, so it would at least make some semblance of sense. This constraint would make it nearly impossible for the author to actually say what he or she wished to say in an efficient manner. (E.g., in case I didn't clarify very well how this would work, to communicate the word 'puppy,' the author might combine: puppy (English), štena (Slovak), çük (Azerbaijani), ????? (Russian), and pentu (Finnish), thereby creating the new word ptç?u. You can see how prohibitively complicated this process would be, if it were used to write an entire storygame.)

3. An equally frustrating storygame: the player must gather information throughout the story, with the ultimate goal of choosing which candidate to vote for in a presidential election. The only choices are a democrat or a republican.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

Actually the 1st one sounded like an entertaining story to do. It would be good as either the child or the parent/guardian.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

Entertaining to do? Perhaps. To play? Clearly not.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

well, it depends. I originally considered something like that , but 1 and 3 both have the potential to be very funny depending on the author. really any story does.

For example in the case of the parent/guardian you could be taking ridiculous measures to try and stop your child (I.E: pay CIA, phone trackers, go through ridiculous scenarios to get out of the house or find your kid, ect...)

and the republican democrat thing could be much more ridiculous, as endmaster could easily write extremely offensive versions of the canditates that, let's face it, everyone finds funny, and we could have a great time doing that

I.E: for example, one fo the canditates would give a ridicuous speech about something or another, and then do something stupidly stereotypical, and then the other would do something of the like, and then you would jump in, attempting to pick one. If you want to be even more amusing, make the decision make, (you) a complete idiot with no understanding of politics whatsoever

End Master's Pointless Quiz

Alright, I can see how those plots could potentially yield amusing stories; but the same is true for any conceivable plot, so long as the author possesses the skill and inclination to make it so. (Which Endmaster clearly does).

However, as soon as you peel away the thin veneer of humor, I'm sure you'll find that any stories based on my ideas would be truly and profoundly unsatisfying. Why? Because there are no good options. Yeah, you might be amused by the ridiculous extents to which the protagonist attempts to prevent his/her child from obtaining questionable material - but at the end of the story, you'll realize that as a result of your mildly amusing adventures, your child has become a naive, socially inept loser with a growing sense of resentment towards you. Since this is the only end of the story, it is bound to be an unsatisfying experience.

Or, in the #3, the candidates (and the voter) could easily be portrayed in a humorous way. In fact, it may be difficult not to portray them that way. But this little bit of humor doesn't change the fact that regardless of which choice you make, the federal government is going to continue to wage illegal wars of aggression, run a huge budget deficit, erode your liberties and collude with corporate interests at your expense. With the realization that your choices are powerless to effect the course of the story comes a deep sense of shittiness. You might laugh throughout the thing, but when you finally get through it, you will feel like you have just wasted a bunch of time and you will come away unhappier and more cynical for having played it.

Therefore I stand by my claim that all three of my ideas are very poor options for a storygame.

Also the worst story would be the aftermath of Eternal being canceled and taken down.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

The second one isnt really a worst idea. It is just something hard to decipher. If you can read it, it could be a very entertaining story.

Here is one 'worst idea for storygame' storygame according you.

Gfuifgbdsvbsiudhvbbissidhvgssidi hduiskvba dshuviak fsgudaisv gdsvuisk gfeuiika gvfduhks.

[Option]Fbddgysuaibgvds

See, it could easily be randomn letters.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I don't understand what you're trying to say... that looks like a fairly shitty storygame if you ask me. And no, it wouldn't be "random letters." If I wanted to write the word 'balls' by the method I described, I wouldn't just mindlessly type gibberish; I would have to find five words, each from a different language, each of which translates to 'balls', each with five letters, and then I'd have to pick a different letter from each of those words to make up one letter of the encrypted word. E.g.,

Balls (English) + hoden (German) + buloj (Esperanto) + kúlur (Icelandic) + coaie (Romanian) = bolue.

How could this method yield anything other than an incredibly frustrating storygame? You say "If you can read it, it could be a very entertaining story," but the point is that it would take such a ridiculous amount of time trying to decode the words by guessing which words from which languages contributed which letters that it would take forever to read - and even if you took the time to decode a word, there would be absolutely no guarantee that you did so correctly, since there will be more than one possible 'translation' for many of them!

This is easily one of the worst ideas for a storygame ever conceived, I assure you. It has all of the incomprehensibility and un-fun-ness of a game of pure gibberish, combined with the extreme frustration of knowing that it can be understood - but that you just don't have the time and/or intelligence to do so!

End Master's Pointless Quiz

Answer to Original Question: B would be the worst idea.

Also, I may not have been the early bird, but I should still get points for being a bird.

Round 2
I can't believe out of all these deviants, no one has suggested bestiality. Not that I endorse it, but a story about a compulsivly lascivious zoo-keeper and his extra-curricular conquest could really turn a few interesting comments. Bonus points for checking 'Siberian Tiger' off the 'list' and living to brag about it to the chimpanzes...

Aman

Late entry fee: -50 points
Bringing politics into this thread by mentioning penguins: -50 points

Berka

Coming up with fairly offensive premise for a story, but probably not much worse than the worst one up there: 1 point

Bo

Your idea while strange is not really "icky" enough to be excessively offensive and is actually too interesting to be boring. Not close to the worst CYOA potential.

You've got love, obsession, revenge, tragedy, one man against the world… I mean hell, those are like some of the major themes of more than a few movies and books. Probably better.

If you went in one direction, you've got a good horror premise. Go in another direction and you've potentially got a romance story and enough explosions of logging camps so it appeal to guys as well as girls.

-5 points for coming up with something half way decent.

Drak

Confidence that I could write something good out of Loon's suggestions: 5 points

Floorboard protagonist… more like FloorBORED protagonist AMIRITE?

Boring premise to be sure, could only make it interesting by having amusing things happen around it. Like say deciding to creak while a burglar is in the house leads to the home owner waking up and shooting the burglar who then promptly bleeds all over you.

1 point for the good attempt

Fireplay

Advertising Eternal: 5 points

galo

Late entry fee: -50 points

So basically your idea is "Johnny got his gun the CYOA" but without the horror of the protagonist having intelligence to even be aware of being in such a hellish state. Really only salvageable by going the humor route like the Floorboard story since actions are limited.

2 points for the good attempt and for making it potentially "offensive" (Retarded cripple protagonist)

hugo

While the plant story suggestion ranks up there with being so boring that it would suck more than being too offensive. I can still see a way to get some milage out of it if you made it a venus fly trap. Still more to do than a floorboard.

1 point for the good attempt

Killa

Continuing to be smug and over confident: -100 points
Giving me answers that I need to highlight for no good reason: -50 points
Coming up with fairly offensive premise for a story, but probably not much worse than the worst one up there: 1 point

Loon

Agreement that I could write something funny out of his suggestions: 5 points

1& 3: Humorous takes aside, I can still see those premises being interesting to play.

3 is probably easier to do, there's a lot of people that get into detective work/political themes. By the end of it, you pick who you think would be the best candidate. Granted maybe there aren't any, but picking the lesser evil out of several is a fairly common occurrence in CYOAs.

1, if done a certain way,  its basically a variation on playing as a pedophile meaning that it's probably on par with that premise.

2, while definitely unfun to play, it would probably would five times as unfun for the writer to create, leading to it not even getting created in the first place.

All in all 3 points for the good attempts.

Penguin

The parasite ridden person story is somewhat of a variation of being an AIDS crack whore except without the crack whore part which makes it less offensive and probably slightly more hopeful. The protagonist can still try to find a cure even without verbal communication via writing or even sign language. They could even try to find it by themselves, which means its not even boring due to all the potential actions you can take.

No points gained or lost for your answer.

Scoring so far…

I know this I'm talking bout in a story game the pedophile thing if you married a fifteen year old cousin in different times it was okay

That's great and all, but in his story it wasn't in different times, so your argument is irrelevant.

By defintion, the story game doesn't even need to be using our definition for words. It could be in a universe where sex means trading pokemon cards, and that being called a pedophile was actually being really nice to kids.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

They are really nice to kids, until they rape them

anyways he calls you a pedo in the story so I am RIGHT

End Master's Pointless Quiz

It's quite common to refer to anyone liking someone under 18 as a pedo, doesn't mean it's correct.

You have to advertise it through your answer. Not by mentioning it.

Anyway's I personally think A and B have been seen in some fashion in your stories and I want to say D was in a different story somewhere on this site. Also Endmaster could be secretly planning a sequel to Necromancer or thinking about which story he has written over on infinite story to transfer over to this site.

I've read his stories on infinite story. The ones he hasn't transferred are because of maturity (in one you're a mega rapist and the other is an erotic and crappy retelling of our necromancer)

Well, despite what some of my associates are saying, I do not regard the Anime Addict protagonist to be a complete pedophile, considering that depending on your choices he may not display any pedophilic tendencies whatsoever. Therefore, he does not satisfy the conditions of B.

Also despite what some of my associates are saying, I couldn't find any path in A Very Special CYOA which involve becoming an AIDS-infected crack whore. While it is possible to contract AIDS in that storygame, it is not done by exchanging sexual services for crack, so it does not satisfy the conditions of C.

Of course, I couldn't find A or D anywhere either, so we'll have to examine the likelihood that you wrote one of these and never published it. This shifts the likelihood onto A or B, because these, being the most fucked up, would be the ones which you would presumably least want to unleash upon the world. Or maybe you would prefer to unleash them. So this point doesn't count for much, I suppose.

I think C is less likely because you tend to write about protagonists who struggle with emotional issues, while crack addiction is a physiological issue for the most part.

D is a possibility... suicide bomber seems like the one which you would be least likely to come up with off the top of your head for the purpose of inclusion in this quiz, because it's the greatest departure from what you normally write. Perhaps you wrote D in the past, when you had somewhat different interests?

Back to A, you certainly expressed a disapproval of the Nazis in A Very Special CYOA. Would this be enough to dissuade you from writing about a Nazi protagonist? I'm going to say not. Another thing worth mentioning is that this idea may leave some room for the player's decisions to have an effect on the nature of the protagonist's psychological problems, which is something you often like to do. This is in contrast to B and D, in which the protagonist's psychological problems seem to be predetermined.

Another strike against B is that it, being an Endmaster storygame, it would have to include explicit detail. I may be wrong, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you have never felt the desire to write explicit scenes of pedophilia. (This is assuming that "pedophilia" refers to sexual attraction to pre-pubescent individuals, and not whatever nonsense my associates are blathering about.)

So, final answer: A.

End Master's Pointless Quiz

I'm sure answer d might just possibly be in ground zero

End Master's Pointless Quiz

D seems like the most fun, so it's probably the one you did before.

A seems too unoriginal.

B seems too much, even for you.

C seems fine, until you realize you've never had a female protagonist, so it's doubtful you did it.

As always:

Ε?μαι προφαν?ς πρ?κειται να κερδ?σει.

I have to say, I think a completely insensitive and callous mocking of a retarded person's day to day adventures would be worth doing, just for the satirical value alone. Can't say it's the worst idea for a CYOA story though (as it would probably be unabashedly hilarious), but it deserves honorable mention.

As for the bonus question, I seem to recall talk of a 'B'-type game on another site, made way back when, though I cannot recall if it was made by EndMaster or he was just pointing out that those sorts of games do exist out there on some sites...

End Master's Pointless Quiz

(Lol, I can't leave this in suspense any longer I'm laughing too much)

And that's it for the last round!

Scoring so far…

I've never written any of those protagonists on here or anywhere.

Some of you are correct in that the Anime Addict in Tales CAN become a pedo, but it's not the main premise and he dies immediately one page later and doesn't actually get to do anything.

As for the possible scenario with his crazy cousin, yep its statutory rape rather than outright pedophilia and since she's 15 technically its ephebophilia. (14-16 years old. She wasn't a pre-pubescent little girl, Killa's correct.)

Taunting the reader by calling them a pedo for screwing their jailbait cousin is just more fun than calling them an "ephebo." The average person would probably just wonder what the hell I was even talking about.

The MEGA RAPIST that Drak mentioned for "Groin Zero" doesn't qualify either. He never rapes any children. The closest he gets is a child sex robot which is actually a midget actor since its all a movie the real protagonist is watching on screen. (Dragging your poor girlfriend to watch Pornomancer instead has a better outcome for you anyway)

Even Doc from Love SICK only chops off a girl scout's head.

Didn't do the AIDS Crack Whore one either, it was just one possible outcome in A Very Special Choose Your Story, wasn't the main premise and you pretty much died on the very page you became a full blown one. It was a possibility on the male side by becoming a promiscuous gay dude who did tons of drugs. (You can only become a regular whore who gets pregnant and kicked to death on the female side)

Anyway nobody scores any points except Killa who got some fancy terminology correct (39 points), but it doesn't matter because the following people have been disqualified because they got the original answer wrong.

Aman
Bo
Drak
Fireplay
galo
hugo
Lexi
Penguin
Xt

The correct answer to the original question was "B" (I'll explain my reason in another thread)

FINAL SCORE

Berka: 151 points
Loon: 128 points
Playa: 60 points
Killa -200 points

The winner is Berka which means he passed yet another test that brings him yet another step closer to winning my trophy.

So as you can see all of this was very important, for Berka anyway. Pointless for everyone else, but you can't say I didn't put that in the title.

While we may debate the semantics of the term "crack whore," the fact remains that the AIDS path in A Very Special CYOA involves neither prostitution nor crack in any capacity.
