A game of life

I liked this more than I expected to. The description didn't really distinguish itself, and except for the first line the first page wasn't very attention grabbing either. There's some heavy abuse of apostrophes going on here, the writing is...casual and informal, let's just say, and the humor definitely isn't for everyone. But I started to warm up to it as I clicked through.

There is an impressive amount of branching, some genuinely funny moments, and the silly parts still follow a coherent enough plot that they don't fall into the lolrandom trap.

Some/a lot of the humor gave off a strong edgy mid-naughts vibe, but poking around in the author's profile revealed this was started in 2014, and besides a few obvious references to 2020 events I'm thinking a lot of it was written then. Just be aware of the occasional random rape joke and that Muslim jokes abound, although Jewish stereotypes are there too so I suppose it's equal opportunity?

The first ending I got was Hillbilly Rebel which seems to be one of the better ones, although I enjoyed being a champion of Allah and building my nice blowjob palace in the ruins of France too.

Nothing quite like living in a peaceful cabin in the mountains until 96 with a sheep as a girlfriend though.


That prison branch though, we need to talk about that. At first I went with the edgy loner Nazi kid wondering if the game would let me shoot up the school, then I was honestly impressed it didn't just end after you did your edgy Nazi things (I'm not sure if actual Nazis say "minorities and migrants" though, and had a similar lol when you angrily called the nursing home manager a *witch*, language being such a weird thing to draw the line at considering the rest of the content...).

Taking what seemed to be an obvious choice to lead to an early death and instead going on to live out your prison sentence and the aftermath was pretty novel. There was a lot fun choices once you were there which honestly could've been a decent game all on their own if fleshed out a bit more. But then I think literally EVERY other path looped back to the prison at some point, multiple times, and I just got sick of seeing it. That section was the highlight until it was so overused.

There was also one choice, where you were being taken to the looney bin after becoming a Satanist, that led to a blank dead end page. And I'm not sure what exactly was going on in the author's mind, or bloodstream, when some endings would turning into parodies of poems or songs, but I was committed enough to just roll with it by the time I started running into those.

There are still quite a few choices I didn't get too, it'd take a lot of effort to 100% this one. But even Endmaster was moved to click around a bit after some of it was described of him, so be appropriately humble and grateful for receiving this rare honor, noob. (He said he set his wife on fire.)

Anyway, flaws and slightly uncomfortable racism aside, thanks for the unexpected diversion. 3/8 level writing, bonus for length and branching, another bonus for entertainment value on more than one level, and you get a 5/8 from me. Don't spend it all in one place.

I had fun, the options are entertaining. If it's life it would make for sense starting from birth tho.

I read the whole thing, but my first ending was getting shanked in the eyesocket by a cheezy gang leader in prison. Great story, though! But it should be called "Black Guy's Life" because more than half the paths lead to prison! I also like how "Go on welfare and start drinking heavily" always seems to be an option. Just like real life! And so funny too! Especially the part about becoming a Jew. 7/8

Honestly, it could go without the political bits, but otherwise, I'd say it's good.

Honestly I'd rather have a good story than a bazillion choices. This is not really a story. It's more a demonstration of how many mildly amusing and creative endings the author can come up with. That said, some attempts at creating a riveting story are so embarrassing and cringy that they deserve a 1 rating on principle. Whatever this storygame is, it's not one of those.
