He said he couldn't reveal it yet, so I doubt he's going to do it first turn after nothing has happened :P
From the first post in the original Arc thread:
"It's called Arc for a reason I can't yet reveal."
Given that it's started, I think we can give away our crops now.
Personally, I choose Rice and Sweet Potatoes. What did everyone else choose?
I chose to grow Date palms and Mesquite trees. Hopefully they both work out pretty well for me.
Well you can check right now how good they are.
In your CP under "Population Centers"
Your Farmers will have a gathering rate for the two resources (higher is better I would assume)
Scroll down to "Resources", and the Morale column in red shows the base morale they give (or something like that). Again higher is better.
Then again, how good they are is in relation to how good other resources are.
I'll look when I can, but at the moment I'm waiting for 3J to accept my Gmail.
I chose wheat and sugarcane.
Sorry for holding the game up, guys, I'm having some trouble with the map
Did you try the link in your e-mail? The link he sent in my PM didn't work but the e-mail one did.
He tried to send one to me but I never got it. It's not in my spam or trash folders either.
Weird... are you using the same e-mail you used in other games?
Yup, and windows live.
I'll be handing mine in later tonight, sorry.
Hopefully it doesn't come to this, but is it too late for someone who wants to take his spot if he doesn't respond by thursday night (or whenever the deadline is)
No, but you have a list of people who asked, right?
Are the names of things universal? (Can everyone see the names?) Or will it be seperate names for everyone?
In OC everyone could see it, and I'm assuming it's the same here. Especially when he said it's like yuo could see the whole map.
Hey, I just realized that I don't know how theology will work where we are the actual gods who are in contact with the government whenever we please. Do we just research it and provide an explanation as always, or do we just research it and assume they know who we are, or do we just drop it entirely?
I'm guessing theology already exists to some extent, just as them worshipping us (I was wondering when you would see the connection lol).
If we did invent a religion, it would sort of interfere with our existence, as Gods. So if a religion was made, it would at best just be an explantion of us and what we stand for. Though it seems rather pointless to make one, given how I don't see any sort of religion mechanics in our CPs.
Maybe just think of it as you're making the religion as you go, since we get to make laws and such. Just make them based on what your religion would be like.
I already knew we were gods seeing as 3J called us deities in the original thread. :P
I wasn't thinking about making a new religion, I was wondering how we would research theology... like I posted. It's always been a large morale and culture booster, and i wanted to know what would happen when we researched it this time, or if we even could research it.
Can the person with the Desert 1 space please message me?
Hey, puff was on yesterday! Maybe we can move on soon :)
It's been 21 hours, any word from Puff?
Are still just working on the Philsoophy v Science system or is there more? Do you have an ETA for the next turn?
He said we were running on a 6 person system, but you were still gonna be the top alternate just in case someone needs to drop.
Anyone at all, actually
Umm.. Why me?
Because you were the last to get into the game I guess.
Or maybe Cool just plain doesn't like you.
Well if you wanna talk about dropping games cool...
Precisely, you're saying that just becasue someone dropped out of games before they'll be the ones to do it again, and yet even you had pre-existing circumstances. Which makes your judgement of atomic not only unfair, but hypocritical :)
Confrontation. You might have been angry at October for telling 3J, which is what I'm assuming he thought you did it for seeing as I thought the same thing at first.
So, anyone actually have a population change? Because mine is the same as last turn lol.
Also what crops did you choose October?
Oh most definately. I'm out twelve food gatherers :P
Lol, what did you do, tax them really high or something?
Nevermind, 7 food gatherers, 5 fromanother profession.
Seeing as they had low morale I didn't tax them at all, it's just that when you have nothing to do but hunt dangerous elephants, and you constantly have to do it or the village starves, and all for low pay, it gets motivationally taxing. At least, that's what I'm assuming, theyand the 5 from the other profession were the only two with negative morale.
You have your guys hunting elephants?
Harsh, mine just pick berries lol.
It's that or sand :P
On second thought, my hunters could have been killed by the elephants, not deserted....
Given that all they have to fight with are rocks, yeah that's a pretty safe assumption.
Why not? All they would need to do is go for the weak/injured/small ones, make sure to keep their distance, and aim for their weak spots.
Keep in mind he did lose a lot of people from it as well.
Elephants aren't nearly as aggressive as you claim, and it's not as though they're always in herds.
Knocking down trees, and crushing cars doesn't make them aggressive. I know they're strong enough to do both of those.
They'll be aggressive enough to attempt to defend themselves, which will mainly consists of threatening noises and making itself look big. Worst case scneario is they rush you, so that you back off, but It's not as though it'll chase you down and crush you. All people would need to do is hit and run tactics, and eventually they would injure the elephant enough that it dies.
It's not like were talking about a lion or bear or other meat-eating creature. Elephants aren't aggressive by nature, and will only do as much as they need to in order to defend themselves.
That's not to say it wouldn't kill you though. Just that you'd have to give it an good opportunity to do so.
I'm pretty sure a "good opportunity" would be the actual trying to kill an elephant thing
haha, I don't think I'm going to tell you guys how I kill them, this is pretty humorous.
And Ugi, just becuase you don't have the imagination to see how primitive people kill elephants, that doesn't mean it's not happening. The cavemen killed mammoths, after all.
The funny thing is I didn't, 3J gave it to me because there was no way I could feed all those people without a food source, so everyone would die beofre I completed the tech
That being said, I have created my own, more efficient ways to kill an elephant
I chose wheat and strawberries.
For reference, who has what crops:
Killa - Rice & Sweet Potatoes
Zylander - Date Palms & Mesquite trees
Playa - Wheat & Sugarcane
October - Wheat & Strawberries
And then Bo and Atomic have no crops.
I"'ll send PMs later when CYS is back up
So how was everyone's turn? I lost and gained some civvies, but even though it resulted in a net loss I now have a huge surplus of food due to new tech.
I gained people, though my income didn't change. So I guess tax income is based on the class as a whole rather than the individuals.
I also gained a tech that should help me quite a bit. Happy I got it early.
Also, does anyone have any laws?
I considered making one, but I would need an effective military to do enforce it so I held it off. Since basic laws like murder and theft are already in play I don't think it quite matters this early in the game.
Has anyone started raising an army yet?
It's gonna be a huge pull on funds as well
Not yet, I won't have any real weapons until next turn so there's really no point in starting one yet.
So, everyone doing well?
My first gain in civvies this tame aroudn.
Was it greater than 10?
So far I'm doing well, I just gained a new class.
I'm not sure. At first I thought I was a little behind but now I'm more confident with how I'm going. Still don't think I'm in first place at the moment, though.
Why did you think you were behind?
I was having trouble thinking of what techs to research in order to achieve what I wanted, and was unsure as to what my priorities were. I think I made a couple of mistakes this turn as well in terms of making poor choices for research, so I'm hoping that come this time in Year 160 I'll have sat down and planned out what I want to do and in what order.
Are you thinking of implimenting a penalty system for when someone is late like with October, or is it just going to be a straight drop?
He's just last though. It's not as though he's actually late.
I'm not suggesting we drop him now, he has untill Thrusday :P Seeing the late list just made me think about how we haven't actually discussed what will happen when we're late.
Do you mean firsts as in everyone who gets in their turn within X hours/days of you posting the turn, or are you actually referring to the first few people who hand in their turn.
If it's the latter I would have to say it would be unfair to some, since we are all in different time zones. Though if it's the former, I think it would be a good incentive for some to hand in their turns earlier.
Curious, were you thinking in terms of in-game prizes, or something like points?
Or the odd tech ;) I dunno if I've ever been first before, but that would be cool, even though I'm two hours behind you.
Did you decide on if you're implementing the early reward system?
That's another problem that would pop up with the reward system, though. Some people will get their updates/PMs early. Like if while you're still writing your PM to Zylander, and October (who was updated first) then turns in his turn. Zylander (and everyone after him) would be put at an immediate disadvantage
In NC I originally had an order of who I would send PMs to, which was Killa, Ugi, Cool, Bo, Erudite, Chris (and whoever joined afterwards), but if I ever saw somebody online while I was updating the PMs I would send them their one first.
I don't mind being put at a four minute disadvantage to someone else if I'm not going to be online during that time anyway. If there's two people on at the same time, JJJ could have some system (whoever has the least "lasts" or something) for choosing.
I found a desert. Anything new for anyone else?
Well, I found out I'm completely cut off from the rest of the world until I develop a way to cross a river.
So you're saying you essentially started on your own island?
Not an island, I have mountains on one side of me and a river on another. So far it looks like my explorers aren't going to have anything to do for a few turns.
Least that means you have a easily defendable position.
Plus it'll be hard to cut off trade since I can always send goods down a river.
I found hills and forest to the northeast and west, although I'm not sure which is in which direction :P Not a big deal though, I'll explore them soon enough.
I might be to the west of you.
So I suggest you explore the other direction :D
Haha, and why would I do that?
So how was everyone else's turn?
Not too bad, unlocked a couple more classes and found some resources. Looking forward to the next turn.
I unlocked more classes, but sadly found nothing new.
I think I'm doing worse than all of you. I've only unlocked one class so far this whole game and have had minimal population increase.
Then you're definately doing worse than me. Can't speak for the others though.
*Sigh* Well, my people are comfortable and my location is pretty defendable so at least I've got that.
What side of the river are you on?
Because I have a river to the west and north of my position.
I have a river to my south and another river to the south of that.
Hm, then I guess you're to the north of me.
Class as in job or class as in priority? If you mean class as in profession then I doubt Playa has only unlocked one class (which would probably be fishing) since he's not in the desert or jungle :P
I think it's safe to assume everyone is meaning class as in profession, not priority.
There's only 4 of them to begin with, and we start with 2 of them, so I don't see why he would feel behind if he only had gotten 1 when there's only 2 he could have gotten from the start (not to mention that I doubt you actually want the priority 4 class).
It's possible that he only has unlocked one class, depending on what he's researched.
Killa's right. Although I'm sure I'll unlock a few more classes in the turns to come.
I joust found that weird since I had four classes to start the game with.
I thought that Playa said he only had one class in total rather than only having unlocked one more class since you had to start with a food gathering class and an explorer class.
Well he did say he unlocked it, so that usually means he didn't start with it.
How would he ever have survived with only one class lol.
You did see where I said that's why I doubted it, right? :P
Well you did say doubt, not: "that's impossible!"
But yeah lol.
Considering the fact he just sent me his turn I doubt he'll be done soon
You guys are communicating since you're both in the desert?
We're not. I know who's in the desert and who isn't, and you'd be surprised :P
We were communicating about something else and I guess he replied to my message instead of 3J's
Lol, poor guy.
I'd be surprised at what? The position of everyone or how much you know about the position of everyone?
Who the mysterious "Desert 1" player is.
Given how Atomic is the only other person without a crop (you being the other), I'm inclined to believe it's him.
Haha, you'll run into us desert folk eventually :)
Wel if it's not Atomic then my next guess would be Zylander.
Its not Atomic I can tell you that. :)
I'm pretty sure it is. Why wouldn't you be able to grow plants in the jungle, plains, or a lightly forested area?
It just wouldn't make sense if you didn't have the other desert area. Why would one desert area be able to grow crops but not the other one?
Well why wouldn't you be able to grow crops?
Maybe he's not by a water source, and not in an area that would get enough rainfall.
Trees. There are trees EVERYWHERE, so there isn't enough room for farmland. Even if you chop down all the treesin a certain area, their roots are still left behind. Remember, we're talking enough room to hold enough crops to feed a city for 40 years, so it can't just be the odd clearing.
For fun I thought i'd guess everyone's starting location:
Desert1 - Zylander
Desert2 - Bo
Plains1 - Playa
Plains2 - Puff
LightlyForested1 - October
LightlyForested2 - Killa
Jungle1 - Atomic
So, is that about right? Playa and Puff might be reversed, but apart from that I think I got it.
Yeah, but I'm a little pissed at you for taking one of the spots I wanted haha. I gave 3J three choices of places I wanted only to find out they were all taken. I guess I'm glad Atomic got the Jungle spot I wanted though, I'm glad I can grow plants :p
I got first pick :D
I got the last one left :D
Wonder why no one wanted the plains. Personally I just wanted to do something other than desert and plains, which I had done before, and I didn't want to live in a jungle.
I wanted the jungle, I really liked the fact that it was rich in resources. I'm really happy with the position I got though, like I said before it is very defendable and I have a feeling I'm going to need to rely on that at some point during this game.
Being rich in resources means you're a prime target for those without resources.
Even though he didn't get plants, the jungle still has tons of food. The main difference is that the plains and forests will get plants as luxuries and Desert and Jungle get exotic supplies like Ivory or things like that.
Actually, what happened to Puff anyway? Did he just join then quit?
So, anything new with anyone?
I got some new tech, new classes, but found nothing new in terms of resources.
I found an extra resource but thats about it for this turn.
I continue to lose population (probably due to low food excess), but with the last tech I researched hunters became the most wealthy people in my kingdom, so I'm likely to get some more hunters in the future.
You can research tech to make certain classes gain more money?
What sort of sorcery is this?
haha, I didn't say "I research simultaneously spawning money for hunters" or anything like that, but if you're clever you can make it happen :)
I see.....nope don't see lol.
How low is your population right now? We all started at like 100 or 120 (I forget), and you've pretty much been steadily losing men since the game started. Are you still above 50 at least?
Oh yeah, much farther. I have about 104 right now, when I say I had a population loss I don't mean twenty people up and left, but between 2 and 4 normally. Then I had that turn where I researched a better technique and got butloads of new people.
That's good to hear lol. I was thinking you were slowly dying off just due to the elements.
Should we expect the next turn later tonight, or is October still doing his turn?
Damn you both!
I hope nobody meets the first requirement yet, otherwise I'm screwed :P
A population greater than 1000?
If anyone is that far ahead I would be completely amazed.
Interesting to see cities go up automatically though. Means that people can't get ahead simply by making cities everywhere, which is nice.
Fuck, my population isn't even over 100.
H...how is that even possible? You're in the plains, and we started with what, 80 people?
Have you been demanding sacrifices every turn or something?
80 people? I started with around 47.
I hope not, I'm gonna be pretty pissed if I find out people were sacrificed and I wasn't able to watch.
Really? I started with over 104. I guess I needed more people becasue my food income would be low. That and there can't be that many oasises in the desert, so they're going to flock to one of the two?
Yeah, it's possible that JJJ adjusted the amount of people we started with according to how hard it would be to live off the land.
I'm really curious as to why Playa hasn't been doing better though. I mean, sugarcane you can't really live off of, but wheat should be giving him plenty of food. Unless he's researched nothing in terms of crop development, he should be thriving right now.
Wheat is pretty much sustaining my whole nation and since I have the position I do, I'm researching some other techs to improve my other classes first. My people aren't starving though so I don't think I would have to worry about them leaving. I think I'm going to research some agricultural advancements now though figuring you all had more people than me since the beginning and I still haven't grown much.
Yeah, usually population growth should be your highest priority, as in general the biggest country usually wins. Unless you get some alliances, which will probably turn into a big deal later on, given how much trade will probably matter.
Come to think of it, none of us actually have country names.
Hmm, maybe we should start thinking of some.
Pop growth should be your highest priority. It brings about more researchers, wihch bring more techs for morale and pop growth, farmers, which bring more food for pop growth, workers, which supply your nation, and soldiers.
Wait, does anyone but me demand sacrifices? I thought that would be the first thing on everyones mind. I mean all those babys running around and pooping everywere is such a drag and the only way to fix it is to sacrifice about half of them to the great lord Cthulu and the other half will learn to sit down and not to shit on the tiger carpets anymore. Those thing are so hard to clean.
You're the great lord Cthulu?
THE REST OF US MUST BAND TOGETHER AT ONCE AND DESTROY YOU!
As soon as we actually have armies lol.
No I am not the great lord Cthulu, but I do worship him and sacrifce children so he will be pleased.
How's everyone doing so far?
Without anything to compare to, there's really no way of telling if someone is actually do well or not. All I can say is I'm not decreasing in pop, so I should be doing good lol.
My pop hasn't changed in two turns :P
My pop decreased for the first time ever. One of my explorers must've fell out of the boat.
My population increased some, but I lost some forgers on the way.
Odds are you didn't lose them, they just went into a different career. Unless you're still counting that as losing them,
Must be tough living in the desert eh Bo?
Only if you don't have plants, because then you can't improve your pop through irrigation or other agrisciences :) But the good thing is my hunting mehtods bring me enough wealth, weapons, and luxury to keep me from decreasing my numbers, so it's 50/50 kinda.
Yeah I'm guessing Ivory is quite valueable.
Arc Thread 2 for next turn? This thread is getting kinda long and takes a while to load on my iphone.
