Anyone read or listen to Creepypasta?

For those of you who don't know Creepypasta is a term for internet short stories

Copypasta is internet short stories, creepypastas are horror based. The only story that ever scared me was "Normal Porn for Normal People"  because I didn't know what a creepypasta was, and for the time being, I thought this was real. After that, I read Jeff the Killer out of interest, which was a try-hard suckfest of a writing piece. Candle Cove, at least the first one, was a very creatively executed one, and Slendy was just stupid, a total ripoff of Cabadath. 

I can't remember the name of the one where the guy suddenly gets really paranoid that something is watching him so he destroys all his monitors, TVs, cameras, etc and locks himself inside his apartment for weeks. 

His buddies, his girlfriend, the authorities all try to convince him to come out, but he thinks they've all been taken over, and they end up bashing the door down and capturing him.

The next scene is him in a mental institution with his eyes gouged out which he did to himself so the monster wouldn't get him and he still believes the doctors and such are still trying to convince him that he's delusional.

The last scene however shows that one of the doctors silently admires the man's willpower and wishes that the rest of humanity had been able resist the take over by this otherworldly being that apparently has gotten a hold of the rest of the world. (Something like that anyway)

So what your saying is.

Russian Sleep Experiment.

No, it wasn't the Russian Sleep Experiment, though that one is the first one I ever read and I thought it was cool enough to go seek out other ones.

That one sort of goes into Hollywood horror movie territory towards the end though which makes it less creepy after the first part of it. (Still, I've never minded over the top violence in a tale)

I've read and listened to most of the "classic" or popular creepypasta and then some. While some very few are good for being well-written, there's something effective about the ones that feel like it's just about a regular person online writing about something that may or may not have happened or could still happen. It's kind of like campfire ghost stories, except the possibilities are more open.

Exactly, that's why JTK sucked, and why most slenderman stories sucked, and why that creepypasta ripoff of the punisher sucked, and why the faceless/the asian mannequin who walked into a hospital and bit things with needle-teeth sucked, and why chains sucked, and why a great deal of other third-person creepypastas bit hairy monkey ass.

Out of all those that you listed, I think the only I read and/or heard about was Jeff the Killer and Slender Man. From the sound of it, I'm thankful for that. The first Slender Man story I read was pretty good. It works best as something that people claim to have sightings of with in a pictures to accompany it. I still have to play the game myself, but watching other people play Slender leads me to believe Slenderman works in a games, too.

The worst ones I've ever been exposed to are definitely the third-person ones, especially gaming ones. Stay far away from those ones.

I dunno, I always sort of liked the Sims 3 one where all the guy could do is play as a serial killer Sim that murdered other sims and make food out of them. Hung them on meat hooks and such.

I'd seriously play Sims 3 a lot more if the game actually allowed me to do stuff like that. Lol.

There was a numbers station one about Fallout 3 that was okay too.

Could you point me in the direction of the Sims 3 one? I'm not familiar with that one. And I have to admit I'm actually fond of the number stations one. The Fallout 3 one felt more like a possible rumor which helped make it more interesting. I actually don't hate video game ones. Some of the ones I really like are there. It's just that I think the worst ones also happen to be gaming ones, especially the ones that are cliche and really far out there in believability.

Yeah I think the creepypasta mods got sick of a lot of the gaming ones, they don't even accept anything to do with Zelda or Pokemon anymore.

Just read it. It wasn't all that bad. It felt a little bit unsatisfying at the end, though, but eerily fitting for it to be a meat factory. Maybe an abandoned meat factory would've been more effective. Then again, I don't play the Sims. Maybe I'll send it to my sister, since she just bought it recently.

But yeah, Zelda and Pokemon has a crazy large amounts of creepypasta. I'm assuming other popular ones like Mario and Sonic will go down that route as well.

The game was the only thing scary about slenderman. I'm sure he dwells in the uncanny valley of psychology, which would make him scary if he were actually real, but since he isn't, no, it just sucks. As far as Jeff the Killer, I knew it was going to be a fucking train wreck as soon as I read the quotes on the opening newspaper line, the kid sounded like a pulp fiction magazine, not an actual kid. The whole story was more like a precotious 10 year old trying to make the joker reject sound cool than an actual creepypasta.

The video game Creepypastas have always been as cool as heck though, I seriously would have liked to play them, provided they didn't actually come out of my PC and kill me or whatever.

Oh, I don't judge things like Slenderman on its scariness but for entertainment value. Unfortunately, that meant only one written piece and a game that I really need to play. The only thing Jeff the Killer had going for it was that unsettling picture, but that's it really. The problem about creepypasta is you really gotta go in reading them knowing these are all unedited and written by complete amateurs. I have a feeling that things like Jeff the Killer got well-known was because it's one of the older ones.

The gaming stuff is completely different when it has gameplay accompanying it. That's completely different than just a badly-written, third person story. However, my favorites are probably the ones that dwell more in possibility, like the one about the Lavender Town theme and Polybius.  The problem is that gaming creepypasta is so popular now, it is saturated with some of the worst material. I was listening to a reading of a Sonic one and it was laughably bad, so much that the narrator ended up laughing.

Polybius has the advantage of being more of an urban legend than a creepy pasta since it's one of the older tales. 

Beat up old arcade cabinets have since "popped up" which adds to the legend a bit more too. Even today there are some people that swear the game actually existed. 

Their was the rugrat theory and pokemon theory there.

I'm not all that fond of Rugrats Theory, but I do appreciate the song it inspired and some of the covers.

There's an okay creepypasta to the north of here, in the lounge. I think I put one in the lounge last year too.

My favorites would probably be Jeff The Killer and Jane The Killer.

To me, Jeff's story, or the version I read of it, is very sad. He tries to save his brother Liu from being mugged by these kids, and ends up killing one. To me, it's just self-defense, so he could've done it and it would've been legal. He soon goes insane by one of the fewest known instincts of the brain taking over; Kill.

While Jane was just a victim, I don't think she truly or fully knew Jeff's story, only knowing he must be stopped, and eventually ended up trying to kill him whenever she had the chance, not to mention stalking him and playing mind-games with his already broken mental state.

I think in the end they'll both die, knowing that there's no room for these confusing beings of both darkness and bravery. Don't worry; They're fight will always remain with themselves, and if Jeff tries to kill you, you can always count on Jane to eventually avenge your death, or maybe even save your life. Just remember, Jeff does not mean it. Blame the children who started this mess, the three kids who tried to mug Jeff and Liu.

Really? I found it quite stupid. Of course, some girl suddenly becoming Freddy Krueger was interesting in a rediculous bad 80s action movie knd of way, Jeff's whole psychosis was BS. First of all, when people's minds snap, they snap to something related to their pain. Jeff, of course, would have been a serial killer for snapping in an act of violence, but no point of vanity was ever made, therefore, his attemts at making people "Beautiful" were innaccurate. Also, them suddenly giving him his messed up clothes was a little too origin-story-esque. Sure, it would have been badass if you were a superhero in the 1940s, but Jeff is niether a superhero, nor is he in the 1940s. Also, there's the issue of him attacking Liu. That was rguably the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Jeff's voice and statements suddenly become that of the typical murdering ghost girl, and Liu suddenly talks like he's the new Stephen King to the newspaper people. This is topped off by the fact that Jeff fucking attacked Liu. Psychopaths are capable of feeling empathy, and can care for more than a few people. Jeff could have gone insane defending Liu, for crap's sake, so there's no reason he'd just up and try to murder him.

As far as Jane the killer, if the shameless cliche of Jeff wasn't enough, they pulled every trope on the teen-girl-shelf down from its place and shat bad writing all over it. Not only did they make Jane write like a detective on an old radio show, they made her friends total stereotypes and cliches, and even shipped her with Jeff's stupid brother. Quite honestly, I liked it better when she just sent his ass a thratening letter and didn't just toss her a thinly edited copy of Jeff's fucking life.

I've never even read the Jeff pasta, just seen the pic a lot. Sounds like the pic is better than the story.

Never really understood the big deal about suicide mouse or the Ben drowned one.

The BEN DROWNED thing was about as scary as the Twilight Zone, which is to say, not much, but back in the days when it first arrived it seemed a lot more real. I believe if you witnessed Jadusable's posts as they were being made, it would have been more immersive and scary, so major props to that guy for making the ONE good Zelda creepypasta there was. Suicide s sheerly a jumpscare and then a wannabe creepy saying with little to no bearing on anything, and that's about all.

Hmm looks like the "Dating Game" creepy pasta got changed a bit.

That one is okay in an over the top sort of way, the only problem I have with that one is the protagonist flipping burgers one moment and making a six digit salary the next. In fact the protagonist mentions it a couple times like he's bragging which makes the protagonist unlikable.

In keeping with going over the top, I'd recommend Lolita Sex Toys and Snuff Film. (The creepypastas, not real ones you fools!) I know those are two that some have said are just torture porn and not really proper creepy pastas, but eh I thought they were done well enough.

There was two stories I remember reading from creepy pasta. Both were made to stories in YouTube with animation, by a user named moonraventales, but for these two stories someone else uploaded it and narrated it

first was called abanded by Disney. One of the most intriguing and freaky stories I have ever heard. A bit long but cool nonetheless. If you don't know a quick synopsis is that it is about a guy who doesn't hear much updates about a once popular place made by Disney called moguels island, based off the jungle book story and movie. It was a expensive project that eventually got stopped, he went to the location in Carolina and found the palace that was built to be haunted kinda, statues being moved in there own, lights flicking in and off. The best part was the end with the costumes, but that I will keep a secret 

Second was mr widemouth, not really scary per say but definitely mentally disturbing, about a kid who kept moving houses, but he got a nice house in Maine with his family. He got really sick at like 5 and spent three weeks in bed, after some time he met some small midget guy named mr widemouth with big eyes ears and of course a big mouth. Mr widemouth at first played with the kid with books and toys, all fun. After a while the kid was asked to jump off a cliff on the window bc me widemouth suggested there was a trampoline on the bottom, the kid refused so mr widemouth stopped then a week later me widemouth wanted to teach the kid how to juggle, but with knives, the kid refused and after a while mr widemouth became very persistent and wanted the kid to play. Eventually the kid was shown a location by the woods with a long path, and was told to go there some day, but the kid was to be moving soon and kept the move a secret. When the family left, the kid didn't tell me widemouth and watched mr widemouth from the window he had a pitchfork and the kid left and eventually came back as a adult, but that is for you to find out lol

I tried pouring alchohal and bleach on my face and lit it, I didn't look like  jeff, I just hade horrible burns

BEN Drowned is great. Not because it was extremely well written written or anything (because it wasn't), but because the amount of work that went into warping the videos that went along with the pasta. It made it seems way more plausible than it could have even been if the creepypasta was standalone. And I've never seen that amount of work go into making a story so realistic.

I read both. I found abandoned by disney scary only because when I looked over the location on Google Earth it was blurred as if on purpose. Mr Widemouth was appreciable, but midgets never really scared me that much.

Two that really creeped me out (and I don't remember the names), the albino eyes one at the hotel, where the guy looks through the keyhole and sees only red. He then learns that albinos (or other things, I've only heard the one version) live in that hotel room, and they have really red eyes........................

And the huntsman in the cabin one, where he can't sleep and sees horrible paintings on the walls and seem to be looking in on him. He wakes up and realises the paintings were actually windows.

That window one freaked the shit out of me.

Yeah! It probably wouldn't have creeped my out so much if I'd actually read it online somewhere, but the guy who was telling it to me and my friend is bloody brilliant at story-telling. Sometimes things are so much creepier then they're being read or told to you, than reading them alone.

Slenderman as a creepypasta never really bothered me. Some of the gifs and altered photos you see make me do double takes a few times, but the main thing I do like is the fact that it's actually really hilarious to watch people play Slenderman games and hear the reactions. (I will admit I have jumped concerning a few moments where I was not expecting something to happen.

Look up a account called moonraven09 and moonraventales. They have great animations for original and new urban legend stories

That was... surprisingly good, or at least the bulk of it was. Although, IMO, the ending was rather unfulfilling and cliche

I would've preferred it had the narrator been a survivor of the ritual, or something.

The ending was kinda given away when he said "I once knew a kid who fulfilled that requirement by".

I highly doubt a kid would have bypassed all the obivous risks and lived to tell the tale, but then again he could have been older than what I'm thinking.

Bah, I could have made it through the game, relatively unharmed, maybe a bit uneasy (I'm atheist).

Either way, it would have made the story better, and it even stated the in the story, Satan isn't omniscient, so beating him at his own game and getting away would be entirely possible. And anyone who'd accomplish would be the ultimate badass.

I love creepypasta's I go out of my way to read some of them regularly. But they aren't as good as a traditional horror novel or anything of that kind. Some however are worth mentioning, others.. not so much.

I've always treated them as stories you tell your friends over a campfire, some of them are funny and/or stupid, but others are actually pretty clever, or scary like they're supposed to be.

Some of them aren't even really horror. I read one a few months ago, can't remember what the name was or all the details, but it was basically about this guy who got drunk with some girl and he woke up not knowing what happened except he had a bad taste in his mouth.

Later he starts getting blackmailed and he sees a video where he's getting in a tub with his mouth open and the girl is shitting in it and he eats it. I think he gets sick at this point and tries to comply with the blackmail, but they go ahead and post it on the internet anyway and then everyone knows him as the shiteater. The end.

I suppose it's sort of horrific on a certain level though.

That sounds like Trollpasta (yes, that's an actual genre; I cringed when I first discovered it); and are usually written for lols [All the one that end with "And a skellington popped out" are this]. 

But there's a TON of great ones out there: BEN Drowned, Russian Sleep Experiment, Squidward's Suicide.

Creepypastas are always best when they're the first ones you read. I read Normal Porn for Normal People and I was fucking terrified because it was believable at the time, and I didn't know that creepypastas were something people did.
