School Zero - Motivation Thread (Contest Entry)

The wi-fi at my house went down this morning, but it got fixed by the time I got home. Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason all Google products aren't working. Google Play Music, YouTube and Google searches are all inaccessible. I can't even reach Blogspot at the moment. This would be a good thing because it would mean less distractions from writing, except that I can't get to Google Drive where all of it is kept.

No writing = time to bitch and moan about not being able to listen to music post a motivational thread. This is where I post about how little progress I'm making, then you guys get to berate me for my terrible writing and atrocious work ethic.

Progress: ???/??? pages (see above; I don't know because can't get at the writing I've done so far)

Intro
Just when the planet's resources were starting to dwindle, a solution to the problem was found. All that was needed to achieve it was time and manpower.

The Qalian government didn't want to fall behind the rival nation Asuud, so their initial goal was to ensure their youth would be prepared for the future they envisioned. They started squeezing students through an education system designed to specialise each individual for a specific career, sending them off to the workforce as young as possible.

But what happens to those who upset the system by being unable to fit into any of the state-assigned roles?

Well, there's always brainstorming for anything you haven't written about, or picking a scene you haven't touched on yet and writing it instead... that's what I usually do if I'm cut off from the rest of my progress.

Actually that's exactly what I was doing, but I just enjoy making myself sound lazier than I actually am.

Ah, a man after my own heart. (Please don't actually try to take it, I need that thing.) Glad you're still making progress, then. ^^

Same thing happened to me when I got grounded from my iPad where I was keeping about a dozen pages of my story on. But I decided to make this time I have with this shitty samsung tablet that lags like fucking skype usefull by working on a different branch of my game.

Yeah, this sort of thing is a blessing as well as a curse. I might not have gotten round to actually doing a background for one of my villains, for example.

I've got my files for my writing back, and I've only got 2 pages of actual writing meant for the story. I have an outline of the story sorted, although I haven't got an exact number of pages, I know roughly what will happen in the storyline for each of the four 'true' endings. I've got 12 pages of background info, and I'm planning on writing even more of those.

Do you guys think I'm wasting my time doing too much pre-writing when I have less than 28 days before the deadline for submission, and even less time if I want to get this beta-tested? I feel conflicted between feeling that this pre-writing will help me make character motives and plot clearer before I start the writing proper, and feeling that I'm spending too much time on something that the reader won't even get too see most of (for such a short story with a tight time limit).
