So, recently I learned of CrowdSound, a yearlong project that has successfully, note-by-note, composed a melody based on the votes of over 60,000 participants. While the end result does get a fair bit repetitive and uses perhaps the most elementary chord progression ever, it's honestly not half bad and still really neat either way.
