Random Poetry Thread

Since it appears there's a bit of a poetry thing going on in the creative corner, I thought I'd also show off some random one I had written down somewhere. Also, because @mizal asked for another poem thread, feel free to brag about your own poetry in the comments. Oh, and I'm not tagging anyone, since it's not really part of the poetry promp thread thingies.

----

In the dark of the night stands a lamp, shining bright
At the edge of a darkening wood.
It is there, there appears a fair maiden, held dear
By near all that have there ever stood.

For she haunted their hearts with her smiles and her laughs
As she called to them, luring and sweet.
While she danced near the light through each darkening night
On her nimble and light-footed feet.

On a day, lost in thought, I had found myself caught
On a winding and treacherous road.
I was lost, I had feared, till her bright light appeared
And a shining way homewards it showed.

When I saw her there dwell, I fell under the spell
Of her face, mesmerising and fair;
And we danced and caressed, while her burial dress
Blew along in the bitter cold air.

Now I whither away through each glaring new day
Till I finally go to that light
Where we laugh for a while, and she gives me a smile,
And we dance through each darkening night.

I was half expecting something like it but the 'burial dress' line still made for a nice twist. Right before Halloween was the perfect time to post this.

This reminds me of a poem by H.P. Lovecraft titled "Nathicana," in which the speaker complains of a horrible "coma called living" while yearning for his love in the dream-world.

This is much more related to Halloween, though, because this poem's speaker has fallen in love with a homely ghost/corpse and not a pale dream goddess. Nice job!
