The Baby

So awhile back I heard about the basic plot of this movie and not wanting to get spoiled too much I just went ahead and watched it on Youtube.

I have no idea how this movie fell under my radar, because when it comes to the more fucked up exploitation movies of the 70s, I’ve seen quite few of them, but its always a fun surprise when you stumble upon a gem.

Anyway, I’ll be spoiling the hell out of this movie so go watch it like I did if you don’t want to be spoiled. Or y’know just read this anyway, that’s fine too.

Okay so the movie starts off with this social worker who just had a tragedy happen to her in which she was in a car accident and her husband got all fucked up. They pretty much imply he died, but she never seems too broken up about it. In any case, she just wants to get back to work and she asks for this case that has seemingly been abandoned as nobody’s bothered with it for years and she requests it since it seems interesting to her and it’ll take her mind of things I guess.

She gets the okay, goes over to this house which has a mother, her two adult daughters and a son who is also an adult but they treat him like a baby.

And I mean like a full on baby. They got him in an oversized crib and everything. And presumably because they’ve treated him like a baby, he acts like one, crawling around, speaking gibberish, shitting in his diaper, etc.

Now one thing that should immediately be pointed out is NOBODY seems to too freaked out by this. I mean granted the family is fucked up so of course they wouldn’t. But the social workers know about this situation and they’ve pretty much like gone “meh” with it all. Its also been implied that there’s been a few social workers that worked on this case before “disappeared” so yeah social services is just not giving any fucks at all.

Anyway, the protagonist doesn’t seem too bothered either, or at least not to the point where she’s freaking out. She’s actually pretty calm about it all as she talks with the mother and sisters. She interacts a bit with the baby. (And that’s his name too, just “Baby”) and feels like that he could learn to be more than he is, if they just put him in a school for retards.

Of course the family doesn’t want to hear any of this and eventually want her to stop bothering them. In the meantime, they have a baby sitter watch him at one point (And again the baby sitter doesn’t seem to find anything unusual with all this) and naturally he tries to breast feed from her because she’s got big tits and because that’s how this movie rolls, she allows this. Then the family walks in on them and they end up beating and killing her.

Speaking of the family, one sister is sort of more sadistic and mean and she hits Baby with a cattle prod for shits and giggles when she feels like it. Meanwhile there’s a scene with the other sister who is nice to him and it shows her taking off her clothes and getting in the oversized crib with him, and tastefully cuts to black because y’know incest sex scene and this is a PG movie.

No seriously, this movie was rated PG.

So at this point the family has had enough of the meddling protagonist and decide to invite her to a party they’re going to have for Baby to ultimately kill her. Since this is the 70s they have no problems inviting a bunch of sleazy looking people who also find nothing strange about this situation. (Just another fetish orgy party!) As an aside, there’s one guy at the party who seems like he might be a serial killer and/or cannibal since he makes a lot of references to skin when he’s with any girl at the party.

In true 70s fashion they roofie the protagonist and tie her up, but she escapes in a struggle and even manages to steal Baby away from the family. Then she takes pictures of Baby doing “adult things.” No not THAT, but stuff like standing up on his own and such, and the protagonist sends these pics to the family taunting them the whole time. Naturally this pisses them off enough that they leave their house to go to the protagonists’ to finish her off once and for all.

The last bit is basically a stalking/struggle between the family and the protagonist AND her mother in law who apparently showed up to help. The protagonist and her mother in law succeed in killing the family and they bury them in the backyard.

So the end right? Baby gets put in a school for retards and eventually becomes a mop boy at McDonalds to become a functional member of society?

Yeah no. The ending is SO much better.

Turns out the protagonist had less than noble intentions for Baby. Which probably explains why she wasn’t really bothered by any of this in the first place (Doesn’t explain why everyone else was cool with it, but whatever)

So her husband that was with her in the car accident? Yeah he wasn’t dead, he was just severely brain damaged to the point where he was a retarded child. The protagonist wanted Baby as a playmate for her fucked up husband. So the next scene you see is her making Baby and her husband play together and talking to them in that sing song way.

Last scene is the three of them in a pool together and they’re all laughing and splashing about in the pool.

The End

Somehow this movie managed to throw in several fetishes and taboos all in one movie and I think in its own way it probably was more fucked up than something like “A Serbian Film.” I mean granted it didn’t have the gore and shit, but it really didn’t need it. Reminded me a little bit more of a Takashi Miike’s Visitor Q if I was going to compare it to something more “recent.”

There really are no other words to say other than 70s EndMaster was a genius.

Vietnam is no longer the worst thing to happen in the 70s

Vietnam was in no way worse than the invention of Boggle.

I weep for those middle schoolers whose teachers think to this day that they've given their students acceptable breaktime recreation.

A genius indeed.  Since you say it's on YouTube, I want to watch it now, but I am not sure it will be as entertaining that way.

When I hear about something like this it makes me way more curious about the director and writers than anything. How does something like this even happen? Or I'd love someone to sit the actors down and make them watch this now and record the commentary.

... Don't know what you find so odd about the story, End. The family are obviously just DeviantArt fans. (I think adults wearing diapers is one of the biggest fetishes beside inflation, tickle torture and My Little Porny.) ^_^

This movie... Like Mizal said, I'd really like to know HOW this was thought up. Did the wirter overdose on drugs? Did the director have a weird fetish? Either way, this would've made a great CYOA story.
