Had a dream the night after I saw the meme about a fridge running because people would vote for it. Basically it was a debate between trump and the fridge and trump said stuff and people clapped then the fridge was asked a question by the moderator of the debate and said nothing but people went fucking wild like it was the most beautiful response ever and even the moderator clapped and cried a bit. Trump was all like "wtf?!"

I'd vote for the refrigerator.

I actually think Trump being nominated as presidential candidate is a prime example of the American Dream. I mean, he shows that people from all walks of life, even if you don't have experience, even if there's a whole stack of evidence of your lack of economic/political skills, everyone can make it to the top. As long as they're quite adept at convincingly bullshitting.

That being said, Trump is, of course, a horrible person. I mean, his policies have kept changing of the course of a few months, and those that are consistent basically come down to stripping the rights of everyone that not white/orange. The sad thing is, however, that Trump wouldn't be the presidential nominee if people hadn't voted for him.

Of course I don't know if Trump got so many votes because people agree with his policies, or simply because they wanted to give a protest vote against the political establishment. Quite frankly, even as a European, I'm both sad because of the fact that a racist oompa loompa with a spay tan addiction might actually become president, and the fact that he might actually have popular support.

He shows if you're rich you can do anything. Something that most people already know, lol.

Opinions on Trump.

If you're rich, you can do whatever you want, even if it might send your country into turmoil. At least the word "turmoil" has "oil" in it. And we all know what oil means, right? Even more money, to make even more turmoil! What a wonderful and positive message that sends everybody.

Not what I meant. Clinton should be shot because she has obviously gotten people killed and needs to be tossed in prison. It's disgusting how our country will allow a criminal to run for office, let alone be winning. Trump is... well, Trump. A disgusting, sometimes bordering on racist, corrupt businessman who's done God-knows-what to be where he is today.

Opinions on Trump.

We have a thread like this about once a month. I don't think anyone here is seriously a Trump supporter.

Even the folks that say they'd vote for him are mainly doing it for the lulz and want to see the world burn rather than believing in anything he says.

Opinions on Trump.

I doubt that. I think it's because they'd rather have him over Clinton.

Opinions on Trump.

Wasn't planning to make any more posts in this thread, since I'm not big on politics. But I just wanted to confirm: I know at least one person that will likely vote for Trump because they refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton. Tried to talk them out of it with no success, though I can't really blame them in a way. For some people, voting this election will be picking the less of two evils, rather than voting for somebody you'd actually want to run the country.

Opinions on Trump.

pretty much every election ever has been picking the lesser of two evils to whoever is voting. third party votes (sad to say) are completely wasted. They hardly even send a message let alone give the candidates a chance; and nobody ever completely agrees with democrats or republicans so it's always whichever is less evil.

In this case it's trump (Prove me wrong only using hard facts and sources - pro tip: you can't). I'm not voting. I'm not complaining. I'm letting it go however it goes and if stuff really ends up bad I trust the country to pick itself up and initiate some changes. That's just how it goes all throughout history. Sometimes we just don't have much of a choice. bad vs bad - that's just life sometimes and we're rolling with it. If hillary wins it's rigged - we already know she's corrupt as fuck and willing to go to any lengths to secure power. At least Trump isn't as corrupt...or at least isn't as shady about it.

Opinions on Trump.

Third party candidates/independents win fairly consistantly in local elections so I wouldn't say it's a vote wasted. On the national level, if a third party candidate could be in the debates I think they would have a much better chance (to at least take a few states anyway). The real problem is people not voting. This whole with us or against us dicotomy in American polotics is utter bullshit. How long will you keep voting "The lesser of two evil"? How long will it be before the lesser of two evils becomes the evil you intially feared most? You think this "democracy" is so much better than a dictatorship because you get one extra choice?

Opinions on Trump.

I'm not voting for either. If anything, mine will go to someone in the Independent party.

Opinions on Trump.

Lol there isn't an Independent party. Independents are not affiliated with a political party. Unless you're referring to the American Independent Party which if you are you might as well vote Trump

He's probably referring to the other two parties. There's Gary Johnson of the Libertarian party and Jill Stein of the Green Party. I don't know much about the Green Party aside from them being some sort of socialist group.

I'm curious as to why you'd vote for Stein, Steve. I get that you despise Trump and Clinton, but it doesn't make sense to waste a vote on someone that is logistically unable to compete with the two major parties. Neither Gary Johnson or Jill Stein have a chance at winning (well they do, but it's very slim). Both the Libertarians and Greens have a ways to go until they are competitive.

Opinions on Trump.

Ah, well all Stein needs is 15% and she's in the debates, which is an easily reachable figure in a time like today where two independents in all but name, Sanders and Trump, have done extremely well. This would be a major step towards getting rid of this abysmal two party system, helping to get out of the self-repeating cycle of "No one's voting independent, so don't vote independent". Wasting a vote would only count if I wasn't actually voting, and I refuse to continue playing a game of picking what brand of shitty politician I want to be force-fed.

Opinions on Trump.

Jill Stein is promising way too much. Free college, free health care, ending unemployment, saving the planet, and taking down the big banks seems like a lot to do. (also free college is a bad idea in general)

Johnson 2k16! https://www.johnsonweld.com/

also he only needs 2% more to get into the debates

Opinions on Trump.

Jill Stein never promises to end unemployment, take down big banks and save the planet. Those are just goals she wants to work towards. The fact that she probably cant' achieve all of her positions don't in anyway mean she's not the best candidate, because she'll still be working towards them, which is a good thing.

Gary Johnson is a guy who supports private prisons even though we've seen they don't work, opposes stem cell research for no apparent reason, wants to end internet neutrality, and that's not going into the amount of insane cutbacks he wants that would cripple the economy and take a great big shit on the multiplier effect. I mean, for god's sake he wants to get rid of the department of education. He's basically began worshipping the free market in a country where the free market has repeatedly taken advantage of countless people.

Opinions on Trump.

This plan will end unemployment and poverty; avert climate catastrophe; build a sustainable, just economy; and recognize the dignity and human rights of everyone in our society and our world. The power to create this new world is not in our hopes, it’s not in our dreams - it’s in our hands.”

This is a quote from her whole "power to the people" shpiel.

He wants to get rid of the department of education so more power will be given to state and local levels

He wants to cutback on a lot because America has 20 trillion dollars of national debt, and we need to make some serious changes to the budget

The stem cell research is mainly being cut because it isn't completely necessary and again 20 trillion dollars

Although I prefer Johnson, I would take Stein over any other candidate out there and I definitely would not mind having her in the white house. (especially with a lizard and a conspirer with lizards running)

Well, I've supported him from the beginning and I think he'll make a great president if he can win. He shoots his mouth off more than he needs to and he doesn't seem to do a great job at capitalizing on political opportunities. Most recently being the issue with Cruz. Trump should have spoken positively about Cruz's speech (which I thought was okay) instead of beating the dead horse that is Cruz's career. Trump also seems people to have some sense of humility buried behind his ego. He's done a lot of good for people personally and has even taken over projects to save taxpayer money. I don't know why he doesn't bring up more of the personal good he's done for people. Most of those personal positives come from people that either witnessed or were involved, but that goes to show how he does have some humility.

Opinions on Trump.

Steve, you misinformed shit. I'm never sarcastic because my little aspie brain would implode (that was my attempt at making a joke). While I am a Trump supporter, I hardly see that as a reason to harbour negative thoughts about someone. I actually remember you calling me an idiot simply because of me supporting Trump without even knowing why I do.

I'm actually not against gun control. Usually when people say gun control, they can mean anything from tighter regulations to the outright banning of most guns. So if you're going to ask me if I support gun control, my response is, "Sure, what kind of gun control?".

Where did you get the idea that I'm a "hyper-Christian", much less any sort of religious type. I literally told you that I'm an atheist in a now deleted thread a few weeks ago. Are you being sarcastic now?

How am I anti-LGBT? In the same thread that I told you that I'm an atheist, I also stated that I supported things like same-sex marriage. I've never been against the LGBT community because I don't care what they do with their lives since it doesn't affect me.

So yes, you must be confusing me for another Trump supporter.

EDIT: Actually, I think I directly told someone else, but it was in a conversation that you were in as well.

Opinions on Trump.

So, racist, egotistical, obnoxious dick who doesn't know what he's doing vs. creepy, robotic, manipulative dick who knows exactly what she's doing.

Trump genuinely scares me, because he's a malignant idiot. No one internationally is going to take his flourescent ass seriously, and by extension, nobody is going to take the rest of us seriously. He has no idea how he's going to fix anything, he just keeps saying he will. He's going to build a wall to keep out all those people with expired visas. Fuck all those democratic conventions, he and he alone is going to fix all your shit! This is not familiar language at all! Either he's got some sort of simian intelligence and he is the sole person behind his running, which I guess is one silver lining because that'd be a really big "Fuck you" to the people who rig shit all the time. But I've had inklings ever since the other guy showed up that he's been bought out since then, which could mean that there's going to be a Hitler scenario and we'll end up with the same nothingness we've always had. (One crazy numbnut gets the people riled up and all the smarter people around him that he trusts come up with things for him to say and do that go along the lines of what he stands for.)

Hillary also scares me. Everything she says feels desperate and robotic. She was already sketchy after Emails: Round 1, and now that Emails: Round 2's come along, I really don't trust her. Everything she says now is not only different from what she said in the past, it's wildly different, it's practically just what everybody wants to hear, and I just cannot get myself to believe how much I want to believe it, for the sake of avoiding Trump and getting the next best thing to Bernie. And I'm not going to go the full 9 yards and say that Hillsey rigged the whole thing for the democrats, but something smells wrong about the fact that they decided to rig it in her favor. Why Hillary, of all people?

I get the feeling that Hillary's path leads to Brave New World, and Trump's would ideally lead to Mad Max, with an equally significant chance of 1984, if Trump's gone from bad to worse or China and Russia jump in on our shit once Mad Max starts. Mad Max would be fun for a while, but 1984 sucks. So does Brave New World, but at least they have orgies and Viking drugs. That, and, change in a democratic society like this is slow as fuck, Hillary is too traditional to change much, and Trump stands the biggest chance to damage things. Or, at the very least, Hillary will fuck things up in a way I generally don't agree with, Trump will fuck things up in a way that I hate as well as disagree with.

Opinions on Trump.

I think Trump will be marginally worse than Hillary I've taken the survey, and even though I don't believe Hillary honestly thinks anything she says, I agree vastly more with her on all those issues than I do with the only other person with a chance of winning.. I don't think either of them are going to do anything significant in 4-8 years, but if there were a thousand straight Trumps and a thousand straight Hillaries ahead of us, it would be a choice between A Brave New World and Mad Max/1984.

Wasn't the society in The Giver  some sort of utopia? I mean, no one got sick, everyone had a role in society, and most were oblivious to the fact that they live in a controlling dystopia. Sounds like a socialist paradise to me.

Opinions on Trump.

There were no emotions, sex, really any meaningful ways to express oneself or think critically. People were "mated" together autonomously despite having no idea what the feeling associated actually meant, because those feelings lead to disobedience. People are unable to live their own lives, die their own deaths, etc. Everything about The Giver's "Utopia" is exceedingly fake, missing key parts of the human experience, and anyone who wishes to become more than an ant, or at the very least becomes an ant aware of its pointlessness, is murdered so that everyone else can continue to live empty, meaningless lives. Hence, The Giver sucks, and so too does A Brave New World for similar reasons in more realistic ways.

Ah. Good ol' Vox and their extremely liberal bias.

But I totally agree with what they said about Donald Trump's reaction, it was really cruel.

Opinions on Trump.

I wouldn't have posted it in here if I thought it to be extremely biased. Plus, it's not like political bias matters here. It wouldn't have been ok for either right-wing or left-wing (or a decent human being) to react in the way Trump did.

The thing I find most telling though, that the guy in the video brought up, was that Trump would be a liability to the country. I guess it's just perplexing to me how other countries can see the extent to which Trump would be a threat if he ever make a careless remark, and a significant number of people in the US can't.

I didn't mean that the video was EXTREMELY biased. The video was actually pretty informative and didn't sway too much (although the guy in the video was setting off some alarm bells in my head). The channel's general political stance is clearly liberal. Take a look at some of their other politics related videos and you can see that they don't seem to show two sides of the story.

I know that Vox is really biased, so I don't follow them or anything like that. But a friend sent me this and I thought this was a relevant video to put in this thread. Like I said, I wouldn't have included it if it was extremely biased. I know what you meant ^_^

This is propaganda, and the guy is wearing a pink shirt. Seriously. I like how the woman claimed she was too broken up to speak, instead of admitting she's not allowed to speak because she's a woman.

Opinions on Trump.

Oh really?

You should check out their gun reform videos.

Opinions on Trump.

What an ill-informed view to hold. You've literally no evidence that she wasn't allowed to speak because she's a woman, and yet, you decided to adopt the position anyway.  For a self-proclaimed critical thinker you swallow the Trump's Flavor-Aid quite nicely.

JUST BECAUSE SHE'S A MUSLIM WOMAN WHO WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HER MUSLIM HUSBAND DOESN'T MEAN SHE CAN'T SPEAK PUBLICLY.

DOES TRUMP HAS SOME SORT OF WAY OF GETTING INTO PEOPLE'S HEADS AND MESSING WITH THEM?

Muslims aren't that bad, y'know? They're actually pretty nice .

Their son is dead, madglee.

I'm not sure whether or not you understand what that means, if you're willing to dismiss this as propaganda. This isn't a matter of political policy or not. Like the commentator said, it's a matter of human decency. Criticism over Trump attacking a grieving family is. not. baseless. It is not unwarranted in the least. It is not propaganda. Political policy doesn't matter if we have a presidential candidate who doesn't understand the weight of a human life. How is attacking a grieving family not wrong, madglee? How can you defend someone who dismissed a person's death because his 'sacrifice' was greater? What Trump said was disrespectful at least, and barbaric if we're being completely honest with ourselves.

The mother didn't 'claim' anything. Trump's the one insinuating that the reason why she didn't speak was because she is a Muslim woman. The commentator accurately stated that if Trump had done two minutes of research, he would have known this. If you want to be taken 'seriously', work on comprehension and, oh I don't know, empathy, before accusing a critique of Trump's behaviour to be propaganda.

EDIT: Managing a country and striving for economic growth is not sacrifice. It's his job.

Anyone but Hillary. Most voters are paralyzed. Both candidates are horribly unlikable. I would hazard that most people are voting against someone, not for someone. Why is that guy wearing a pink shirt, what is this, the eighties?

Opinions on Trump.

I used to be very "anyone but Hillary", but now... now I'm not so sure. Trump has done a lot of idiotic and fucked up things over the last few days and weeks.

Lmao, how could anyone vote for him when the first thing he said after the Orlando shooting was, "Called it."

Not voting means that you don't care (unless you're a goddamn illegal, or really busy). If there is one thing I've learned from KOTOR II, it's that apathy is death.

Hailing from the good old United Kingdom, I have incredible difficulty imagining why anyone in there right mind would vote for Trump over Clinton. Sure, Clinton is unlikeable, but at least she seems to be competent and working within the parameters of the real world. This coming from a country that came this close to having BoJo as its fearless leader, I feel I know what it's like to dodge the curiously-blonde-hair-doed-buffoon bullet.

I'm sure it's just because Trump is that much louder so his ridiculous acts reach my ears more easily than Clinton's faults and that I'm missing something, but can someone please justify a vote for Trump for me? I need to understand before all faith is lost.

Trump is literally the farthest thing from incorruptible, he's as bad as Hillary

Opinions on Trump.

Maybe so. I looked into his campaign background and he would have taken the money if he could have. A guy apparently told Trump to self fund his campaign because he wanted an excuse to not work for him. And it worked. Still, it's in reference to the fact that him being against the establishment is a main talking point.

Surely you could've picked something like "Rebel", or "Rage against the Machine", or something a little more accurate?

While that would have been more appropriate,, there isn't a trait of that name in the game. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen those traits.
