A friend and I are planning on attending a convention this June together for our first convention. I've been raising a lot of money for our tickets (chores, etc) since they are very expensive, but I'm not exactly sure how to reach our goal in about two more months. I'd like to make some extra money in advance for the booths, but I have no idea how. Y'all are experienced with money. Please help, we would absolutely love it if we could attend.

Same here. The only thing that comes close to an allowance is the money I collect from selling recyclable materials.

Usually also got extra money on holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc. since it later on just got to be more efficient for me to get the money so I could go buy whatever gifts/items I wanted on such days.

Yep. Broke except on Christmas and my birthday. Chores were something expected, not payed for.

Not the same. :3 I don't get money whenever I asked for something specific, even if it was just a pack of pencils or a new binder because it wasn't logical to have such junk. I do get money on Chinese New Year, Christmas and my birthday though, but I am not allowed to spend it.

?Saving it up for later in life or this really mean trick: Get you in the collecty-money mood and then force you to spend all that money on stuff.

For example, this year, my parents will buy me something of $40 in value (the value lowered due to me apparently being an ass). What I want is $80 (Kindle Black) so I have to supplement it with $ from my stash, which they recently took just so they could monitor and force me to spend/use my money.

Additionally, there is a summer course I have to pay $200 for. Literally the sole reason they're making me spend money now is to make me feel bad about losing the money. "You can't just be cheap and hoard your money. That's bad."

Basically, I am forced to spend my money for my extended education, which I get, but damn do they make me feel bad about it. :c

Exactly. I do chores and stuff daily, just to help out. But I do get an allowance, albeit a tiny one ($5 a week) but it's all I need and I get a lot more on the numerous holidays my family celebrates.

Looking at things from the other side, instead of increasing spending money, why not lower the cost? You could send an email to the organizers, mentioning it's your first convention and asking politely if they could give a discount. It costs you nothing to do, and can save you money.

As for earning money, chores seems like the most reasonable way, assuming you can't pick up a part time job / don't have a quickly monetizable skill like caricature art (I lost the spelling bee on this word more than a decade ago and I still instinctively spell it as charicature >_<).

I lost my most recent spelling bee for the word: enunciate. Due to the sheer anxiety of being made to spell words on a stage, I couldn't tell if it was spelled with and "E" or an "I" due the way the announcer was pronouncing it.

Haha, thankfully that was almost three years ago. I do much better performing now.

Ugh. I misspelled macadamia in one of those. Even more frustratingly, I once said "aitch" instead of "ha" in a German one.

So basically macadamias are forever ruined for me now.

As I do not know you, if you have talent within art you could offer to do small sketches and such for money. Don't expect too much though because 9/10 people with just want it done for free. But if you can find a idiot willing to pay $10 for a stick figure it's worth a shot.
