A place to sit back, hang out, and talk about anything you'd like.

To the regulars here: have you ever encountered people who don't seem to be able to handle negative criticism? People who post their stories on a public site and then get pissed if you say it is anything other than perfect? Is there any point in trying to deal with that or should I just ignore it and let him go about his own way?

If they get that pissed about it, then stop helping, let them do whatever it is they're trying to do, then bust out laughing when he gets royally pissed after tons of people tell him its terrible.

I always feel so bad about myself when I don't teach someone something he would benefit from learning.

I agree with Bo, ignore it. Some people don't want help and there's no point in trying to do so if they're going to insult you for it.

Is this someone in particular?

I don't want him to snap at me for criticizing his ability to accept criticism, so he will remain anonymus.

Also, this individual has a lot of writing potential, and is generally a good writer. He just doesn't seem to know how to accept criticism.

Hahah "I don't want him to snap at me for criticizing his ability to accept criticism"

I like that. :)  They're right now - you don't have to feel bad for not helping, if the person you're trying to help won't accept it anyway and just attacks you for it.  He'll fail for a while, probably pick up some bad habits along the way, the criticisms will pile up steadily, but if he's got potential like you say and he cares enough to keep writing, he'll be alright.

I guess letting others criticize your work is a privelage, and with every privelage comes the right to reject it.

Some people are happy to accept criticism as long as it's polite. To me, that's more annoying than people who just outright deny all attempts to be critiqued. When you receive criticism, regardless of how it's worded, you should take a good look at it and decide whether or not it's legitimate or not. If it is, you should look at how you can fix it, and if it isn't, you should ignore it or argue it or whatever you feel like is right.

But people who become instantly defensive just because the guy who critiqued them is a rude son of a bitch lose the opportunity for so much improvement. Really wasteful.
