Player Comments on Chess Master Stan!

This was a rather humorous game, and I do enjoy chess as well. While this is something that I found to be quite amusing, this isn't a storygame without it's flaws.

For one, this storygame is quite linear. Almost all of the choices seems to lead to the same outcome, so it didn't feel like that I as a reader was truly effecting the story in anyway. There's the illusion of choice, but I really wouldn't call what was offered in this storygame "real" choices. But still, even through its linearity this was still a funny story that I found to be endearing in its own way.

Grammar and structure, there were some sentences that seemed to run on and could've benefited from the use of a comma. Also, I encountered some pages that really looked unflattering because they were basically walls of text, and that's never really a thrill to read. Typos were also something of a redundant problem with this game and I couldn't help but feel that either a lack of care or foresight is what hurts this game in the technical sense.

While this is a humorous game that's filled with it's own charm, this is a game that doesn't offer much in terms of branching or meaningful choices for the reader. So this is more story than game, however this isn't something that I found to be a terrible experience.

I enjoyed the humour in how seriously Alexis takes chess, and commend you for writing such an original storygame!

There were a few grammatical errors, like starting a sentence with a lower-case letter, capitalising nouns that aren't proper nouns, and just capitalising random words.

This storygame was linear, and for a good portion of it you are faced with the same choices, which are essentially 1. don't play Alexis (all of these links lead to the same page) and 2. proceed.

Nonetheless this was a fun read, even if it is a little unpolished.

Very linear, but amusing. I enjoyed picking the obviously wrong choice to see what response I would get, and the fact that I didn't have to restart or go back and just pick a link. However, it wasn't really a game, but a one way street, so I rated it 4/8.

I think it was pretty good! It was funny and dramatic. Though, there are a few grammar mistakes, but over all pretty awesome!

More of a fast-track train journey than a game, Chess Master Stan still carries a charm of sorts. Although the writing has generally poor syntax (elaborated upon by other commenters), it drags the reader into warfare and keeps them in their seat for the few minutes it takes to complete the game.

The game couples its linearity with too many choices. Although obviously and not-so-obviously wrong choices are meant to lead into jokes, the fact you have to confirm your want to actually begin the game so many times coupled with the fact that the "actually, I don't want to play the game I clicked on!" options set up the joke over and over again begins to get annoying. After a certain point, you just want to play chess.

Although I'm not very good at chess, I would have enjoyed more chess minutiae. This is an epic chess battle, after all, but it feels like chess here could be replaced with any traditional game, from backgammon to strip poker.

The main antagonist was a character of sorts, though everyone else was flat. Though I'm partial to joke games, I think that they need flavour to carry their punch.

Absolutely adored the humor in this! My only complaint is that it just felt a bit linear at points.

Usually storygames that are very random are the worst kind, but this was very good. You had a plot and character information, and I got to make a woosie out of Alexis ;)

The only problem is that one spends the first half of the story deciding whether to fight Alexis or not. You end up giving us the same choice about 5 different times.

This got a bonus point from me because you told us what the results of picking the "wrong answer" were, but then allowed us to correct the mistake instead of manually going back. Other than that, it's a great concept, but could have benefited from a little polishing up.

It was kinda juvenile. You mispelt wussie and drought, those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. And it's supposed to be unrealistic ulibert, it's under fantasy lol. Bo realizes this story exists.

The plot was... interesting. I really think they got really worked up over nothing. A game of chess? Maybe you could hold a grudge against someone for beating you, but trying to kill them? It's rather unrealistic of the character. Alexis seems like such a flat, static character. It doesn't really fit the role of antagonist very well.
Still, you put decent length into your pages, so we knew what was going on even if reading them wasn't necessary in understanding what was going on.

So their was one game of chess with decisions and about everything else had nothing to do with it. If Alexey had one then how does that make him king? and this game sucks. 3/10

That game was cool! I've been wading through crappy games for the past half hour, this was a breath of fresh air! Very funny and well-written, but too easy - have people actually die instead of saved by miraculous visions.

well i must say, excellent plot, however, the loooong loooong paragraphs on nothing but white is quite boring, i fell asleep reading at the second page, but kept going. i say, make the game cooler with pictures and stuff like that. but good game, not better than adventures in Okinawa, which is coming out soon
