Player Comments on Pride's Hunt
***Review contains spoilers***
Man, I enjoyed the comedic approach playing as the demon king, Pride. The (few) characters are a level of ridiculous that kept me entertained and engaged. Staying true to nature, Pride is self-delusion and believes himself to be the greatest demon. He even loses himself in daydreams about how great he is! Ha, that’s great! The first ending I received was the “bad” one... it seems that the harsh reality was of not being the greatest was enough to break the epitome of pride, although I don’t think the ending keeps in line with the characterization of Pride, especially since there was no choice besides giving up. Throughout the whole story, the amount of self-delusion Pride has is almost on level with his, well, pride. I find it hard to believe that he would surrender so easily. He could have at least (wrongfully) convinced himself that he was stronger than Sin and continued to fight him. Proverbs 16:18 btw. Even if he was defeated in an “end game” link, the character itself would remain true. It look me forever (almost 15 min) to reach the epilogue and it was somewhat anti-climactic. After failing to reach it several times, it would have been nice to have a glory-filled ending, but I understand that the epilogue stays true to the characterization of the story members. If Sin was as strong as described, then Pride really did have no choice but to flee, although my inner romantic would have liked to see Pride/Vanity tag team Sin’s ass WWE style. The epilogue concluded with a sentence that was very clearly structured after Eternal’s epilogues.
The plot was fairly straightforward. You’re looking, or rather hunting, to identify the challenger that is attempting to overthrow your rule as the demon king, Pride. You really only have three places to search and I was going to rate lower for not having much replayability, but the fact that I hit the “restart” button multiple times to find the epilogue kind of refutes that... or maybe I was just bad at the game. Lol. You generally have 2-3 choices presented and they mostly lead to the same conclusion, which falsifies the idea that your choices matter. Although, to reach the epilogue, you’ll need to choose them in the correct order.
Some things that stuck out to me:
-Not a big fan of the crossed out lines. I get the idea; the whole story is built upon a satirical approach to the seven deadly sins. I think that strikethroughs are better left to the forums and not in a published storygame. If the strikethroughs were meant as a way of displaying the inner monologue of Pride (and changing his mindset), then I guess you can disregard this as he seems to have the tendency to zone out in his splendor.
-“Keep looking for Grish” page has a random “\”.
-“I’m Pride and I demand you to tell me” is a dead page. It seems someone already mentioned that, but the fact that it wasn’t fixed at the time of this review is the only reason I’m restating it.
I enjoyed the writing style, simplistic story, and characterization of the demon king, Pride. This is currently the second Creatures of the Night story I’ve read and it was a pleasant surprise to see the satirical approach to a horror-themed contest. I imagine if the publishing wasn’t limited by time, it would be a lot more polished and rated higher. I give it a 3/8 (It’d be a 4 without the dead page) for being a well-written, entertaining storygame, but it comes off a bit unfinished with the dead page, lack of real choice, and limited endings.

The reason why certain decisions lead to being able to escape isn’t explained at all, and the epilogue was very underwhelming. 3/8

Hah! Finally found the épilogue! I was about to brute force but found the hints. I probably played without getting too much into thinking like the character, which was my mistake. Would have liked some choices that could bring depth to the story. Otherwise, that's a fun game.

This is really good! The only thing I noticed was that one of the sections didn't have a link. It might just be my computer though, it does that sometimes. Lol. Overall, a really great game!

I liked the writing. I felt it gave a good setting for a fun story. I tried and tried, but only could find 1 ending. (no spoilers here).

The epilogue was really hard to find, and when I did, I didn't get the satisfaction of an ending
