Player Comments on The Proposal

I begin this review with a prayer that the Overgod smites me not for my upcoming blasphemy.
I would like to applaud Alexp for coming up with this ridiculously elaborate proposal and his girlfriend (hopefully current wife) for being a good sport and going along with it.

Now on for the review. The puzzle part would probably be fun to those who like that sort of thing. It was still easy enough not to be frustrating while requiring some figuring out. I do think a lot of the items, such as the cell phone, could have just been things that you were assumed to have picked up when they were mentioned or things that the story mentions you picking up though. Having so many unnecessary items really added to the feeling of most clicking being pointless.

While I am on pointless clicking, many of the choices were completely pointless. It was not as if there were pages upon pages of dialogue that needed to be broken up, and the pointless dialogue choices and choices about whether to watch a movie or go on the Internet harmed the story rather than helped it. Choosing what random every-day thing to do is not the best use of the reader’s time.
Additionally, some choices it made no sense that I had the option to choose at all. If I am playing as a set character, especially one based off a real-life person, why should I be able to choose, say, how heavy of a sleeper I am? Even if this wasn’t about a real person, such a choice would be dumb unless it was stat-determining.

Also, LET HER IGNORE THE PHONE, DAMMIT. Have Dan stop by unexpectedly rather than have the phone ring for what would be hours in real life as I click the ignore option repeatedly. Then it has me go through the same dialogue option infinitely in an attempt to railroad me. Unfortunately, this story has been railroading far longer than I have been reading story-games, and after two minutes of rebellion against the plans of the author, I gave in. It would have been much better to have made Katrina give into Alex with some reasoning if she didn’t want Dan stopping over and thus remove the endless loops from the story.

The grammar was decent, and I did like sing the big picture of the statue thing and the shiny diamond, but overall, I think this story suffers heavily from rating inflation. I don’t know whether that’s out of fear of the Overgod, a reflection of a different time in site history, or both, but it is true.

It was like re-living the whole event over again. I am soooo happy and thankful that I am with the most amazing guy in the world. Thank you for all the hard work you did (and your friends of course)....this is truly something I will remember for the rest of my life. I love you!!

I must admit, it brought back some great memories for me as I was also proposed to via puzzle trail and it brought back a lot of the feelings of excitement and mystery from ours! This is a very cool way of proposing! I love playing games where you have to use clues and such to find certain things and places, so that makes this twice as good. I did notice a few spelling mistakes but none that takeaway from this great story. Keep it up! 8/8

Amazing story. I really enjoyed how it was based on the actual event, I really enjoyed the items and pictures. Really just loved this whole thing. My only problems were it felt like an action movie most of it(Which isn't necessarily bad, but i found this under "love and dating" and the actiony feel wasn't really giving me what i wanted. But you couldn't control that factor since it was based on an actual event, so i can forgive that) and the ending felt a bit rushed. As said previously, you couldn't change that but I guess I'm just asking for a little more detail towards that proposal. Nonetheless, great game.

This is really well thought out, and how he chose to base it off of a real life event is truly interesting

It creative, but I thought this was a thriller and suspected everyone that the female came into contact with, from the friend Dan to the limousine driver. The creativity was great, once you get over the act that the character was in no actual danger and that this was a proposal from a dedicated boyfriend. Honestly though, unless you are spontaneous or care free, most people would have thought twice before embarking on this journey.

Why did it just end like that? It could've been the mystery of the artefact but you just ended with this sudden, out-of-the-blue proposal and I have a bunch of stuff in my inventory that I had no use for.

THIS WAS SUCH A CUTE GAME!!!! At first I thought the birthday present was gonna be a ring, but it wasn't. The puzzles were fairly easy and I solved it pretty well, but I immediately forgot the title of the game and didn't expect the ending! THAT'S SUCH A UNIQUE WAY TO PROPOSE TO SOMEONE!!! My heart was touched... T^T

Very predictable and one dimensional. Not to mention a complete cheese fest. No options to take you far from the planned route. The only thing that would have saved the game would have been having the option to refuse his proposal with extreme predjudice,leaving him emotionally destroyed and suicidal as he bursts into fits of tears. Then you should be able to spit on him for being such a homo.

Haha having read this I am struck by the question which came first, the Proposal in reality or the story the Proposal? :D It was a cool idea and a great thing to do, it reminds me of some of Derren Brown's stunts. On the technical side the writing was good, the story well paced, the item uses well handled and the choices were logical. Not much wrong with this, my only suggestion would be to reveal it is a true story based on real people at the end of the adventure so the readers feel more like it is their adventure while they are reading it. Terrific work.

I read this long ago and felt like reading it again. What a wonderful way to propose. If I ever decide to get married I'm going to do something this clever. I'd say you're very romantic, regardless of how the actual proposal itself went, considering the time and effort you put into this. Did you pay some of those people off in the various cities? Wow, I really got a kick out of this adventure. I thought it was brilliant. I wish I had done something this "out of the box" when I proposed to my fiance. She said yes too, but what a story it would have been if I had done something like this. I wonder how you came up with this idea. Seems like so many things could have gone wrong. Like what if she didn't figure out the clues? It was definitely risky but payed off in the end. I'm sure she enjoys telling people this story. Great job man. Loved it.

Harmless but rather felt I was being funnelled somewhere I didn't want to go. Why have options to not want to go on the plane etc. and then be forced to go on the plane?

Proposal portion could have used more detail. And what actually happened if the restaurant part wasn't true?!?! Fun adventure though :) Like a giant scavenger hunt!

Very interesting, but a bit anti-climatic. I was expecting the story to carry itself out more and the actual proposal seemed a bit anti-climatic after all of that effort. Still, it's definitely one of the more unique proposals I've read about and it made an interesting CYOA game.

A nice game. The puzzles reminded me of the puzzles in Dan Brown's books. Nicely written, and good idea.

That was really cool! It would be a nice twist if you could say no to Alex at the end, but it wouldn't really fit with the story, and it would, I dunno, be kinda sad.

That is seriously the coolest way to ask a girl to marry you. I only played once so I have infinite questions: did you pay all those people to meet her, drive her, and act those parts? I also liked the information and background on the statue, as well as the puzzles. Really drew me in. Great job.

Odd game. It is still the best love and dating game but it is more or less a modern adventure if you ask me. I got confused a little bit. Was the gift cursed and why would she say yes. I would have asked some questions about what was really going on.
