Player Comments on Tower of Riddles

The game has just enough riddles with plenty of variety to keep things from getting frustrating and/or boring. The difficulty of the riddles varied for me instead feeling like they were getting more difficult. Which was something I personally enjoyed.

Excluding the first riddle, I found a few of the riddles to be easier than others. I didn't need any translations for the armor riddle; I just picked the suit that sounded more friendly than the others. The only difficult part of the vampire riddle is that it takes a little time to find the answer.

On the vampire riddle, I think it would've been nice if the options and image were on a separate page after choosing to inspect a coffin. It gets a little tedious having to scroll to the bottom of the page so much. But it's not too much of a problem.

The final boss riddle was clever and stands out from all of the others. Technically it was more than one riddle, but they were easy enough. The final boss quickly becomes the butt of the joke without being aware of it. I have a few thoughts about the time loop situation itself, but I'm probably overthinking things.

The most difficult and frustrating riddle goes to the purple rose riddle. I don't know if it's from not really understanding the hint, if astigmatism counts as problematic eyesight, or if I can only focus on the tiling and what looks like artifacts. But I ended up just guessing until I got it right.

Instead of just dumping a bunch of riddles on the reader, they're worked into a story. I enjoyed learning more about the tower and its inhabitants as I solved the riddles. Even the deaths were enjoyable.

Ignoring my love/hate relationship with riddles, this game will bring you entertainment and, potentially, some frustration.

Now this certainly is an excellent storygame. I simply love Riddles, and I think that there is a very good amount in this storygame so that it's not too short, but it's not too long to the point where it gets boring. The Riddles were very fun to solve and gradually increased in complexity, and the final boss was just excellent. (I'm not going to spoil it, but do pay close attention!) ;)

I also enjoyed the fact that you actually incorporated writing, rather than just Riddles, so it was a very interesting and entertaining read. It was very descriptive and flowed well, and kept the storygame valences with a healthy amount of story and game. I really enjoyed that other riddle storygame that you wrote about the Dryad, I think.

There wasn't much character development, which didn't surprise me at all, but it was quite impressive that there was any at all. I think the best part for this was the development of the hidden helper. The wizard had a bit as well.

There was only one mistake I noticed as far as spelling and grammar goes, and it was on the page introducing the final boss. ("Defiantly" instead of the correct "definitely"). 7/8

Full Disclosure: I delight in solving tricky riddles, so this game was right up my alley. That being said, it is more of a GAME than a STORYgame, but I found it quite enjoyable all the same.

First of all, the riddles are simply brilliant. They begin easy enough, but morph into complicated and powerful foes that require some serious thought to take down. I really appreciated how they followed traditional riddle patterns instead of simply being difficult and annoying questions.

Second, the presentation was excellent. From the humorous writing to the touch of meta to the evocative illustrations to the clever interaction - this game made use of its medium to the fullest. Clever riddles couched in enjoyable reading? Yes, please!

Finally, I wish to commend the author on the polished prose with which this tricky tale is woven. While spelling, grammar, and overall style generally don't make or break a storygame, it's nice to have an experience free of such minor but nagging distractions.

My first time reviewing a game, and the first game I've played. This was a rock-solid puzzle series with some funny dialogue for failures and decent hinting. I did have to consult some outside sources (mostly for the Bible and language puzzles) but overall this was really, really good.

Great Game! I enjoyed the story and thought the riddles were fun. Admittedly, I used trail and error on a couple (especially the rose pic, I can NEVER get those), but had a great time trying to figure them out. The last riddle (riddles) to end the game were awesome. Really fun and enjoyable.

Die at the end anyway?

I used this adventure to help my 10-11 year old students understand 2nd person Point of View. They loved it and were very invested in our progress, or lack thereof. It has inspired my students to make their own choice stories using different platforms. It was a good time. Cursing was to a minimum, which is an extra plus for a teacher.

This was the best story game I've ever played. I love how it broke the fourth wall with the time loop and dying thing. The riddles actually made me think (a good thing), and the reward at the end was amazing.

The riddles 1-9 were fun, I enjoyed it.

The best storygame I've played on this site so far. The animal riddle was a bit of a cliche and the biblical one required more googling than I thought I would have to do in a riddle game (I was not raised in a Christian house so...) but the rest were really fun. The final riddle was especially well written, when you read between the lines it goes from being frustratingly hopeless to being the most fun challenge of the game. I just really loved playing it, and the ending was really satisfying in a Bilbo Baggins kind of way.

This was fun! I liked all the riddles, but the only one that had me stop to think was the last one. I managed to crack it after 10 minutes or so, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. :) As for the riddle given to the Evil Lord, I figured the "answer" was what it was simply because I would've done the same thing. xD
P.S. Is it okay for me to say that I was a little disappointed that the ultimate master of riddles, aka Gollum, didn't make an appearance in the story? Maybe next time... ;)

Started good, but got a bit tedious toward the end. The final riddle redeemed the whole experience though. This was overall a memorable experience. My friend and I thank you for a fun night.

My friend and I spent 2 hours doing this Choose Your Own Story, and honestly, we were both SPELLBOUND at the quality!!!! THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN! This writer is incredibly talented and the writing (and ending) was super shocking and unexpected. My friend and I were gasping at every page. The pictures were also super scary and unsettling. Honestly I wish I could do it again. THIS IS SO WELL WORTH YOUR TIME.

With quarantine and everything I was just looking for something to pass the time. I was not expecting to become totally absorbed in this story. The riddles are unique and challenging, and they require logic, reasoning, and creative thinking. I almost gave up at the finale, but I am so glad I didnt because it was the best part. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for not only a compelling storyline with good writing style, but also an opportunity to put their riddle skills to the test.

I had a really good read and lots of fun with this story! I loved the riddles, and riddle 9 with the coffins has to be my favorite out of them!

The last one with the evil lord that lets you choose how to die is impossible. I tried every single one, and still couldn't get through!!

Loved your story! The purple roses didn't make any sense to me though. Best part was the vampires.

Most of the riddles were a bit trivial, but the last one was fascinating, and the boat one would be clever if you hadn't seen it before. The story was thin, but added something. The ending was humorous.

I expected the riddles, but the last riddle was really something! I loved the concept you used with the "baby polar bear." It really was quite clever. When I figured it out, I was blown away! Really good job!

I myself really enjoy riddles and puzzles like this. I especially the one in the nursery and with the vampires. I would have like a different answer for the final riddle, but I suppose its the only way to "withstand a cozener"

Definitely one of the best riddle game I played here. Every one of the riddles worked in another way than the one before.

The first one was kind of the more classical riddle, while already the second one needed to be approached differently.

When you came to the next two riddles you needed to think more logically to figure out the only possible way.

The riddle of the jester was in my opinion the most simple one because once you get that numbers actually mean letters you figure it out quite fast.

The riddle with different languages was likely the one i did enjoy the least because you had to use another website. (except you are someone who speaks 5 languages anyways)

The riddle of the vampire I enjoyed most because you had to read every hint carefully and then one by one take away the wrong answers to find the right one.

The last riddle (or riddles?) with the lord of the tower was definitely the most challenging one because figuring out where to find the actual riddle already was one.

All in all by far one of the most enjoyable games on this site. And yes I use the title game because its clearly more of a game then a story.

the "polar bear" in a snowstorm is white. white like your comp screen. now there is a reason why a polar bear can't be seen in a snowstorm, right? because it blends in. nooooow... something is 'blending in' and you gotta figure out what is.

final riddle was insane, ingenius and genuinely made me mentally braindead until i figured it out. great job!

I had to use the multiple choice for like four of them, and one I could have solved but didn't want to waste time on (the vampires one). The last one I had to cheat to figure our, had to look into where it's blurted out in the comments. Anyway, you did good.

Played this once before but I guess I didn't finish it? Either way it's a wonderful game and also has elements of a story that make it entertaining.

FRICKING AWESOME

The riddles were fun, most felt a little too easy just because of the fact that it has to be multiple choice kind of. I wasn't able to complete the game which was incredibly frustrating. I know what it wanted, but couldn't do it from my phone I am guessing.

The writing in this story was very pleasant to read. I particularly enjoyed the sarcastic quips throughout. (For example: not understanding how to press a button, and being able to die of starvation at the very beginning of the story, or answering that “Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick” was the murderer in the third riddle, were both quite clever). I also liked how you specifically mentioned in the beginning of the story a funny reason for why you might be locked in such a strange dungeon (stealing a loaf of bread to steal your family – was that a reference to Les Miserables?). The story embraced the implausible scenario, and made some fourth wall jabs at the nature of such set-ups as commonly found in similar games.

I thought most of the riddles had an appropriate level of difficulty. (As some of the other readers have commented, none of them left me feeling frustrated). The first few were fairly straightforward; riddle seven was challenging, but fun. I did, however, have some trouble with riddle four - I tried for about ten minutes to “see” the picture in the flowers image, but I couldn’t find it. I know how these sorts of puzzles work, as I had a book filled with similar pictures before, in which I was able to see the 3D images. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the picture was digitalized? Riddle 8 was a bit tricky – I liked the hint, but I had to look in the comments to finally figure out the answer. (I don’t think some of the other readers realized there was an answer, based on the comments, but it was very clever). Finally, I liked how you included several multi-step riddles, which made the game more fun since it’s harder to obtain the correct answer via random guesses.

There were some minor typos/grammatical errors, but far less than I’ve seen in most stories. (E.g. in the die of starvation ending, you typed “pleasent” instead of “pleasant”. You also occasionally forgot to use commas to separate subordinate clauses, though this was rare).

Good job overall.

An excellent game with engaging riddles, good writing, and a bit of humor. I especially liked the vampire logic puzzle and the water bowl puzzle. One of the choices for the water was not the most intuitive, as I expected to "give" water somehow and not "take" it. I also could bot do the painting puzzle since I've never neen able to do that kind, but I did love the idea of having a visual puzzle.

The final boss encounter I was a little dissapointed in as I hoped for more of a riddle face off or epic triumph, or even some sort of paradox option like "freeze me with fire."

But overall it was excellent, divertibg, and mentally stimulating.

I really enjoyed the story! Very creative (if somewhat infuriating) riddles! That last one took me forever though.

I am impressed with the storygame. Normally, I wouldn't take a look on riddle games but this is by far one of the most entertaining riddles that I have ever try. The riddles in this storygame are challenging enough so the readers are capable to solve them rather than just become ridiculously difficult so that the readers feel frustrated . Any of those aside, the writings are nearly excellent , they are full of pictures and well-driven. It took me a moderate amount of time to complete the game but it's worth the time. There is a small grammatical mistake but it's not worth for me to mention. 7/8 Would like to play again.

Oml it took me so long to think of an answer to the riddle! (of course i had to use a hint first, but still) XD I love the Humor and Riddles you put in this game, it really made me think bigger!

I mean, I was kind of frustrated that you can't win, but it was good.

This was a lot of fun. I didn't particularly care for the riddle with the armor suits and the doors since it really just felt like an exercise in google translate, but it wasn't enough to take away from the experience. I had a good deal of fun and killed some time, so overall I'd say it's a good game and worth playing. The ending was especially clever, though I wonder what the evil wizard's endgame was, since he would just end up having to kill me forever.

Intriguing.Basically summing up the whole game’s experience for me.

Went into it with quite a bit of expectation and came out a (l)title disapp(o)in(t)ed.The riddles were quite easy to solve (Extremely sorry if I sound snobbish) (Sorry if you felt the previous quotation was sarcastic).
Sadly couldn’t get through the last riddle even though I had a basic idea of having to solve it (on an outdated iPhone).

OMG. This thing is off the charts! I like how you used so many different types of riddles, or rather, puzzles. My favorite ones were the Bible verses and the magic eye. The easiest one was the magic eye, because I learned how to do it a long time ago.

This was enjoyable as I am a fan of riddles. I did notice an error on the final riddle. The option to 'bitten by a poisonous snake' is a misnomer. Snakes are venomous, not poisonous. Sorry to nitpick, but I thought you might want to correct it. Other than that I enjoyed stretching my brain a bit. Thanks for a fun game.

I really enjoyed this! It was a fun game of riddles :) The only thing is I was playing this on my phone, which made solving the final riddle impossible. I then played it on my computer and succeeded! :) So maybe there could be a warning beforehand that you shouldn't play this game on a phone. It was very frustrating having solved part of it but not being able to solve it fully. Thank you for making this!

after looking through comments i saw that you had to make the text blue and i completely missed the additional dialogue and thought that it was the same thing as always and took 30 minutes to actually see the text and i felt absolutely stupid and angry,but the concept is so good! I do like the odd riddle, but this tested me to my limits. I got stuck on a few, got some lucky guesses and then it came to the final -and in my opinion, the best, well thought out- riddle.

I thought of the solution for the tower of riddles almost immediately. Or at least how to get it. What went wrong was, I pasted it in the wrong format so the answer didn't show up. I finally found out though. I fell accomplished now.

But the woman folding her hands was annoying, after all I got killed 8 times and saved her, she gives me her attitude. Though I liked the part where she was making fun of the wizard.

Pretty fun game! But honestly the last riddle was freaking time consuming! I mean, combined with my slow internet and constant resetting, it was a freaking death wish! I have already left a comment before so I'm not sure what's going to happen but here it goes. First off this game is possible to beat on mobile it just takes a long time, trust me I've done it, secondly I am unsure as to how you get the profile badge, do you have to download the image or something because I've beat the game twice and I have nothing, but that could be because I beat it on mobile, lastly this is a good game full of quite a few good riddles, the ending being one of the best.

That last riddle really stumpted me. I'm gonna type in the answer though, so spoilers! First choose fire, then hole, then snake, then arrow, then noose, then age, then lightning, and finally choose to duel. This was a really good game though!

Ok, so, there IS a way to win, and it's absolutely, positively, creatively *wonderful*, but don't expect to figure out how unless you're on a PC.

It was very, very fun! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. However I could not for the life of me find the answer to the last riddle.

One more thing, I promise, I REALLY liked not having to make a map for this game. That can get quite tiresome in some of these other games I've played.

P.S. An excel spreadsheet can help you with the coffin one, with coffin numbers on one axis and vampire names on the other. I really enjoyed that.

After reading the other comments I went back and really finished the game; the last battle is solvable; read comments for hints.

Good times. I like logic puzzles, of which there are more than one in this game. I do wish the last riddle had a correct answer, though. I'm going to play through again and make some wrong choices on the second to the last puzzle just to see what happens.

yay! i solved all the riddles again! i vaguely remembered some of the answers but i went through the riddles all the way anyway because i wanted to know the logic behind them all. by the way i still don't get the optical illusion no matter how i look at it all i see is a bunch of purple roses. most optical illusions don't affect me but i can never find hidden pictures? maybe i'm too left sided?

The Final Riddle was great. I missed the change in dialouge 3 times.

I'll admit, the riddle that took me the longest time was the one I supposedly came up with. I must have wasted about half an hour just staring at it as I tried to figure out what had three eyes and fit the criteria. Thus, the next page had me laughing out loud.

All in all, this was an incredible amount of fun bound up in witty dialogue and wry humor. Excellently written, grammatically perfect, and consistently clever, this game has only one flaw that I can think of - replaying it just wouldn't be the same after you've already solved the riddles. It makes me almost wish I could delete the memories just so that I could play through it again.

I suppose all that's left for me to do is to recommend this to as many people as I can and live vicariously through them.

It is very good and I really liked it. I only had to use the back button 1 time in the vampire riddle, and no where else. Every option in the last riddle lead to death though.

Tower of Riddles was composed of pretty good riddles! I think that this storygame was a good effort by Briar_Rose, but I don't think that this medium is well suited to riddles. When you add a multiple choice element to riddles, it ruins the fun of trying to figure them out and that seriously detracted from the fun of this storygame. Additionally, I felt that the riddles got seriously weaker in the boss fight at the end. They were way too easy at that point.

Still, this was an enjoyable play-through and I'm glad it exists.

... I went into this story with a rather jaded attitude, I admit. I wasn't all that interested, but after the first couple of riddles, I really got into it. I mean, I could argue that the one with the princess doesn't have truly sound logic or that the one with the animals is a little silly, but...

Some of them were really good. And that last one? Was actually kind of brilliant. It's a trick a lot of us have seen before, and yet... really, well done. It's... mainly my soft spot for riddles in general, one that I've had since I was very young, but... I can't think of any flaws here because I enjoyed it so much that they just don't seem to matter. You even got me to laugh a little at the end. So, for the first time in quite a while, I'm giving a story an 8/8. Bravo.

The religious ones are a pain when you've never been near a Christian church in your life. The red-haired girl was funny though, and the vampire one was pretty clever.

Very fun game, and I especially loved the final riddle. The use of the hint there was very clever. I also like the sense of humour that was there throughout the whole game.

Okay. I'd like to explain a few things here: First off, unlike what everyone is yelling about in the comments, YES THERE IS A WAY TO DO THE LAST RIDDLE. Like the Walmart Game, it is essential that you try to think out of the box.

I originally figured out the last riddle because of a hint that one other player dropped, which I'd like to repeat: Look for the HIGHLIGHTS of the last question. If you really didn't get the hint just now, try to hover your arrow over different spots on the page...IS IT STILL AN ARROW?

If that's still not obvious enough, then I can't help you. But don't be harsh, because like the false "End Game and Leave Comments" link in "Kill Aman's Mustache", THERE IS A WAY TO FINISH THIS GAME.

Strong story. I didn't like the Biblical riddle though, because it requires use of external resources such as a Bible or the Internet, rather than being solvable using only your brain or good old pen and paper.

Loved the humor and that last riddle threw me for a loop but someone in the comments section gave enough of a hit I could figure it out. I want a long back story as well. Also I think you could have gotten more creative with the vampire deaths. I figured the riddle out first time but I picked a bunch of doors hoping for a unique end. I was sad it was all the same.

I really liked the game. The riddles were difficult, but solvable, (the only one I guessed at was the languages, since I was lazy) and the final puzzle was incredibly creative. It got me annoyed, but luck made me find the solution in the end. The only riddle I disliked was the Old Lady riddle, since I feel that "Time" is a correct answer.

I liked it a lot! Since I'm always a stickler when it comes to grammar, I'll say that sometimes you used the wrong its/it's form and the grammar was kind of off for dialogue too, plus a couple of other tidbits. Nothing got in the way of comprehension. The riddles were fun, and I like the fact that the character's not simply going from riddle to riddle without any background. When I got to the final fight, it truly felt like the home stretch of a quest (made especially great when, RIGHT after exhausting all options, suddenly something looked amiss). I completed the Tower of Riddles, and all I got...was satisfaction.
