Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Okay, this thread is for the purpose of discussing words that sound like they should mean something else. For example, when I was little, I used to think that to euthanize something meant to make it younger.

Libertarians? Well, libertarian philosophy is defined as a person who believes in the doctrine of free will. But the free will doctrine has a lot to do with many religions at the same time all dealing with Gods and other Gods and more Gods and then people. So I can't really have a proper opinion because I didn't read the entire Wikipedia article. I just skimmed.

Wait, how is the title related to the post?

Vegetarians. Pescetarians. Libertarians. Catch my drift?

And sounds like someone's had a little too much internet for today.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Wouldn't that make Humanitarians... cannibals?

(Sorry for bumping a three-month-old thread.)

Tv tropes thinks so. And, I, personally, have no problem with thread necromancy.

What the zark were you doing looking at 3-month old threads? You had to literally go back 5 pages before you would've even had the chance to see this thread e-e

Haha yeah, I could tell you got that from wikipedia :P. The Original Libertarians were basically just anarchists, but modern Libertarianism is based off of the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Her philosophy is pretty basic conservative philosophy (not American Conservative, actual Conservative. Think limiting government rather than forcing your beliefs on others) like the government shouldn't interfere in peoples' lives and that the free market should exist. She also fucking hated Socialism and wrote several fictional novels about dystopian Socialist societies. They're decent.

Libertarians today basically just argue smaller government in every aspect. This includes schools, road funding, foreign intervention, healthcare, if you name it they'll say the government shouldn't tell you what to do in it or that the government shouldn't be wasting its money on it. Libertarians themselves range anywhere from what I call the "Live-and-Let-Live" Libertarians where they basically just say "The government shouldn't tell them what to do" (think cases like abortion, marriage, and marijuana legalization) all the way to anarcho-Libertarians who belief that the government should be basically nonexistent by taking away all funding programs, police forces, postal services, upkeep personnel, and only keeping a large enough military to defend us (and do so without taxation.... yeah, you read that right). But Libertarians range from everything in that spectrum, and it's probably one of the most diverse parties I've ever seen (I've even seen pro-life libertarians which I thought goes against what they stand for but he explained it in perfect libertarian logic). However, I give it as much a chance of actually succeeding as a Communist government, as in you need to alter it from the original ideology in order for it to function.

But it relates because he's saying that it sounds like it should be something else. When you think "Libertarian" think "Vegetarian". Get it? Eating liberties. It took me a little while but I thought it was funny when I got it ^-^

Anthem was good. Couldn't stand AtlastShrugged. Ugh.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I actually enjoyed Atlas Shrugged. I mean I've only gotten through four hundred pages so far but still XD.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I couldn't get past the first 50 pages. XD

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Wow, you explained that fairly well. It doesn't sound like you care much for us, though. :) I don't really ever imagine a true libertarian government taking hold. It would be nice if that was possible, but I see libertarianism mainly as a counter balance to an otherwise corrupt system. Like, the populist party was. After the group got some of the reforms they were looking for, they dissolved into another political party.

I used to be one Junior and Senior year of high school. A user here who isn't active anymore is actually the one who put the original thought in my head that it might not be all that. I remain a Libertarian in a moral sense, as in I believe that the government should lay off on domestic rights, but realistically I feel the government actually does need to intervene in a few issues such as social security and crop subsidies.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I sorta feel that way too. It has it's place, but gov. is overstepping its boundaries quickly.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I'm honestly not that offended by what they're doing. Other than " 'Merica rights pew pew pew" I don't really have many comments. Obamacare sucks because I can't get a job over 13 hours anymore but other than that it's actually doing some good out there. Censorship sucks but it's been happening since forever and probably isn't going to change anytime soon. Plus the fact that Americans can't say "Conservative" without thinking "Christian" so a true conservative isn't going to be elected, just liberals who think they're conservative because they don't like democrats so nothing's going to be done the way I like it no matter what I do!

Sorry, kinda went off on a rant there.

I thought aids mean you help someone with their sexual problems.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

"But there is one thing you should know. I have aids. They're up on that hill over there waiting for me. Poor guys; they both have AIDS."

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

You could make a Band of Aids where each member of the band wears Band-Aids and all of you have AIDS... it's like inception but really lame...

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

How is it like Inception? XP

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Because they're a band with AIDs and Bandaids, so there's Bandaids within Bandaids, but it's only truly band-aid ception if there's bandaids within bandaids within bandaids, so they'd need to eat and wear bandaids all the time.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Haha. That's so confusing. Too many Bands and Aids.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Economical liberals destroy all values for profit while social liberals destroy all values for "individual freedoms". Both can suck it

Communism is bestism.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Socialism I can sort of get behind but screw the commies

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I prefer Fascism for bestism.

Communism is my second, because you either go nuts with it or not at all.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Fascism is a romantic theory but I pledge allegiance to the ethnos not the state and I'm not such a fan of totalitarianism.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I liked the whole unified germany thing.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

National Socialism isn't the same as fascism. Fascism doesn't care that much about the ethnos and is more about the state (Mussolini had an affair with a Jewish hoe and only hunted SOME jews to appease Hitler). That's not to say that he wasn't racist, but he had more of a cultural view of the state than an ethnic one (though in history the 2 have merged into the same thing).

And Hitler didn't just speak of a unified Germany (a thing, that existed since the days of Prussia) he spoke of the superiority of the Germanic (not German) race and the extermination of some other ones. Also, he didn't just wish for Alsacre-Lorraine and east Poland, he wished for a Germany that spanned till the Urals.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

So, following anything with the word liberal indicates that it sucks. I would agree with that.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Come on, we've already derailed to communists and nazis? That usually takes a day or so.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

This isn't even derailing

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Well, you did bring up a political question. So it's impossible not to have communism and nazi's mentioned at least once.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Not really, if they did then they would not be 'liberals'. From what I've seen and read the Liberals a socialist state without the socialist part, or is that putting it to bluntly?

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Libertarian's are not liberals. Take that back. Liberals generally believe in stronger government regulation and servaillance, libertarians do not.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Liberals are stronger in Fiscal matters but looser in Social matters. Libertarians are half conservative, half liberal.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Thank you, Aman. We are actually located to the right of republicans on the political spectrum. I don't like that; it makes us seem like extremists. Of course, liberals believe that anyone who still follows the constitution is an extremist. Unless the constitution serves their purpose.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

I wasn't defending your opinion, ha ha. I was stating how libertarians were both conservatives and liberals.

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

So why not just call them Liberal Conservatives?

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Or Conservative Liberals?

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Or Corrupt Politicians?

Do libertarians eat personal freedoms?

Libertarians aren't really that corrupt (well, anyone can become corrupt, but that's beside the point). We believe in greater personal freedoms and less government intervention. We also disagree with getting involved in another country's affairs.

Yeah. I feel I'm either chaotic good or chaotic neutral. I'd say Tanstaafl is probably lawful neutral. Endmaster is probably neutral evil. By the way, your profile pic is a llama dressed like a Japanese schoolgirl, right?
