I induce trance for meditation, dream walking and auto writing. It depends on what your trying to achieve. In this case you want new ideas? Well I suppose you may achieve this in trance. Look into the gateway experience. It's hemisynch of the brain.
If your trying to astral project, I will share a method my grandmother taught me. Lay on your back and focus on your right foot. Imagine it heavier than the rest of your body. Then move to your calf and do the same thing. Then move to your thigh, and then knee and so on. Go all the way around your body. You have now taken yourself down. You have changed your brain to theta. Now start at your right foot again, but this time imagine it being light. Go around your body again. You should feel like your floating and about half way thru you should experience a pop sensation. I don't look back at my body until I'm ready to go back. It may take a few sessions but it will work.
