Player Comments on The Animal
It was a very fascinating game and the items were great.

Yikes. This could have been a better story if more work was put into it. Everything is rushed and you don't really get any starting information. You are just thrown in blind and expected to find out who killed this guy.
3/10

This story makes no Sense! First you have an animal and human potion which is just there no reason for explanation and you mention something about avenging your sister and then it’s never brought up again!
Then the game turns into a murder mystery where you’re basically given all the items you need. The killer is laughably easy to find out because they literally have a gun in their stuff and no one else has a weapon!
The only option is to find out who the killer is and if you get it wrong you die. There’s no branching you just guess and that’s it.
This is the second storygame this author has made where I woulda lost brain cells had I had to read anymore! I get that it’s along the lines of a kids murder mystery but seriously there could have been some more life breathed into this thing to make it a better story overall but no this what we got.

*SPOILERS*
There's no consistent plot to this at all. Your sister is apparently dead, I guess, and you just have these potions. You turn into an animal for like three seconds then do nothing else with it. There's no point to it at all. You find the body of Patrick Ollins, who's never mentioned before, but apparently you know him by name. Then you're all of a sudden searching for his murderer? Also, when you're searching the wallet, you find the ID of Jamie. Who is Jamie?
Nothing makes sense here and this is not a story at all.

The grammar was very bad, and I thought that the story was difficult to navigate, only plus side is the use of items

To Win:
Take the potions and use the Animal one. Transform into and animal for no goddamned reason at all except the author is a furry, click the only link you can click until you're told to use the Human potion.
Take the items. Don't bother looking at them. You won't need them for anything, but you must have them all for the link to MOVE ON to appear. Click that.
Apparently you're supposed to identify a murderer now. Nothing was ever said about a murder but okay.
Don't worry about talking to any of these people, just go to pick the murderer and then go down the list of names until you win. The End.
So to recape: You drank a potion that turned you into an animal, walked down the street to reach a building, drank a potion that turned you back into a human. Picked up some random things you found lying around, and entered a room full of people to randomly accuse them of murder. No further context was given. There is no story here.
I apparently gave this a 1/8 years ago, but still feel like that was nowhere near harsh enough. This wouldn't last a day if published today.
Mousepaw is somewhat legendary for her cringe even when we're talking 2014, a year of nothing but. So there's that, if you're browsing the site for historical research purposes.

A good story. I like how easy it was to finish, and how the facts were put in a succinct, list-like manor. Short, but still good.

What was the point of the animal potion?
Anyway, a game about investigating a murder mystery is an interesting idea in theory, but this was just fell flat in execution in so many ways. It's not even necessary to read anything, blindly clicking suspects until you happen upon the right one also works just fine.

Didn't talk to any of the suspects. Clicked on one of them randomly and got the murderer correct. Might as well not have bothered with the human/animal potions at the start because the rest of the game was no different than other mystery games.

How in the world does this have the rating it has? Alright, let's review.
"A classic murder mystery."
Nope. This is far from a classic murder mystery, as a classic murder mystery has to at least qualify as half decent.
This was incredibly short, and I finished it in about thirty seconds. There were quite a lot of pages and links, but there was so little detail and about a sentence per page for most pages, there was just nothing to really read honestly.
When you hint for the player to use the human potion, that's just not necessary. I think a person might be smart enough to do the only thing that they can possibly do on the page.
Then there were the accusations. I didn't even need any clues, because you literally have to pick the right person or it just takes you back to the page so you can guess again. Not to mention there's only five people to accuse.
There was absolutely no backstory or emotion at all in this story. The low amount of detail contributed to the crap factor of this flaw.
1/8.

If this was a newbie attempt: Hey, good try. You got the systems right, and you made a complete, if short, story. Try working on your description length and quality, and you'll be okay.
If not: Nnneughhguhgl.

The story was kinda weird. Potions? And the items really didn't do anything. It was obvious who the killer was though.

A potion that turns you into an animal? What the heck were you before? A fungus? Well, judging by this story, I am inclined to think you have a brain made of fungus at the least.
First, the system of naming the killer is flawed, because someone can easily cheat by going back and picking each of the options until they find the killer.
Also, what is the significance of the potion? You only use it once. Any time after that, it serves no purpose at all.
And, what about your sister? You did a very poor job of creating a backstory.

I thought it was going to be really crappy because I read the description and the authors aren't known for good stories - however it was very well done and I actually enjoyed it. Needless to say, I'm impressed that Meadow was able to write a good story with mousepaw involved (I still doubt mousepaw had written ANYTHING in this story).
