The Ant Hill Kids was created in 1977 by Roch Thériault, an ex-Catholic who converted to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Although his mission was originally one of good intention, power, along with heavy drinking, overcame Thériault and he turned into one of Canada's most torturous leaders, abusing and disfiguring several of his followers. During this time, he fathered over 20 children with the nine female members of the group, populating his commune as much as possible. The cult remained active until 1989. Thériault was given a life sentence and was killed at the age of 63 in 2011 by his cellmate in Dorchester Penitentiary.
