Kick down the door

Welcome, traveler!

This is an open-map dungeon exploration game, where you will use your stats, items, and wits, to fight monsters, solve puzzles, discover secrets, and more!

You don't need to read the detailed rules section in order to play the game.  Reading it will give you a better understanding of how to play strategically, but the game is designed to be intuitively understood without prior explanation.  This "rules" section can also be referenced at any time during gameplay by using the "Stats" item.  If you plan not to read it, the most important information has been boiled down to these eight bullet points, though these are more advice than rules:

1) Use the “investigate” and “dagger” item frequently—these items are needed in many different places.  Several areas of the game can only be accessed through the use of the investigate item.  The dagger is often used to harvest resources from the environment.

2) It’s strongly recommended against using the “go back” button.  Actions that initially seem to have no effect, a negative effect, or no effect other than wasting resources, may have a long-term positive effect, or go towards triggering a non-default epilogue.

3) Experiment with different combat styles to find out what works best for you, and take advantage of unique options presented to you on specific occasions.  Most combats have one or more unique option in them that can be activated through changing up your fighting style, or use of an unconventional item or spell.

4) Use the Stats item to manage your equipment and resources.  Equipping armor effectively will help you avoid losing health, and learning spells will help you solve puzzles and access new areas of the game.  In order to use the armor and spells you pick up, you need to use this item to equip and study them.

5) Don’t be afraid to revisit areas you’ve been to before.  Many rooms have challenges that can’t be solved without resources or information from elsewhere in the dungeon.

6) Don’t cast a spell unless you’re certain you want to use it.  Casting a spell costs mana regardless of whether or not it has a positive effect.

7) Whenever you want to end the game, head back to the entrance hall and leave the dungeon.  Don’t wait too long to do this, or you may not have enough health left to survive the endgame sequence.  It’s not expected that you’ll be able to explore the entire dungeon or solve every challenge in one playthrough.

8) Have fun!
