Player Comments on A Tale of Farms and Fairs
This is a cute game that lacks any sort of substance beyond that cuteness factor. You play as a ten year-old tasked with singlehandedly tending to farm animals of your choosing (which, by the way, who would EVER allow that to happen?). It sounds like a fun concept in theory, but the execution isn't there.
The most impactful choices are the selection in animal (pig, goat, chicken) and the name(s) of the animal(s); the rest of the story railroads along the same general path, just with different names and species. Because the author manually created different paths for each name/species rather than using variables to track these changes across a path, the word count is quite inflated - despite a 5/8 length, you can finish a "path" of this story in about a minute and all of the paths in about three.
I'm more than happy playing a wholesome slice of life game where nothing "bad" happens, but the lack of any resistance against the protagonist (except for one page where attempting to steal a horse lands you in a coma) makes the story feel boring. Conflict can still be present in a cutesy farming story, even if it's not interpersonal or combative in nature. Maybe our protagonist needs to strategically determine how to train a stubborn farm animal for their competition, or they must find ways to make back the money their parents gave them for their new friend.
Lots of opportunity to come up with something interesting in this scope, but it falls short ultimately. It's still a pleasant, coherently-written game though.

Every fair I go to I always make sure to stop and eat funnel cake. I’m glad to see someone who enjoys them as much as I do.

Pretty decent game in all. Vaugely informative about chicken breeds and such.
I would have liked to see some more variation in the different paths, they all followed the same formula of get animal, name and take care of animal, go to competition, and an idealized epilogue.
You could have done this same thing with far less words and copy pasting with just a bit of basic coding. I found an article explaining it for you because I enjoy wasting my time. https://chooseyourstory.com/help/articles/article.aspx?ArticleId=3850
There was a broken link for the epilogue of Hugo the pig as well.

This is a very short game where not much happens, however I would like to see a much larger and more expanded version in the future. So take the basic idea and stretch it out a LOT more; adding more characters and a story would be a great idea, though even adding a few longer descriptions would help loads. I'm a strong believer in games which don't have to have a lot, or even any, major instances of conflict and where the player can just exist and explore, but they still have to have a great deal more immersion to make up for the lack of story.
I would advise anyone interested, especially the author, to try reading/watching stories like "Charlotte's Web" or "Babe/The Sheep Pig", something along those lines would be an absolutely great addition and something I would happily rate higher.
