Player Comments on The Nightmare Realm
Wow! WHAT. A. STORY. I definitely think this story deserves a spot in the Featured section of Horror games. This easily trumps so many horror stories on the site right now.
Let me start by saying this world the author has crafted, the Nightmare Realm, is ripe with rich imagery, sensory-invoking scenes that trigger every dark impulse and imagination of the human mind.
Throughout the story there are these amazing, show-don't-tell moments that I absolutely nerdgasm'd over. For example, there's this one moment with Archibald where he says he'll "savor" your character in one of the death scenes, and it doesn't go through the tedious work of describing the hours-long torture. Instead, it just ends with, "Hours later, when your broken form has finally expired," or something similar. Now THAT is good writing!
The Nightmare Realm really places you in a vivid hell-like world where you don't belong in. I wish there was more good endings, but it makes sense how James has no true way to combat the Nightmare Realm beyond putting a g-... well, that's too much of a spoiler.
This story also embodies the CYOA spirit. There are so many endings! So many little choices that MATTER! It was really fun seeing the different endings, and, jeeze, the sheer amount of content in this story means its 7/8 length is GREATLY deserved.
I just, I've never read such a great horror story on this website. It excels so much. It gives me hope that there are writers here that go beyond an amateur level.
There are only a few moments in life where you read something written by some random nobody on a website you frequent, and think to yourself, "wow, it's like I just read a professional author's work." This is one of those moments. I can say with 100% certainty that Steve24833 is one of those authors.

The plot was well written out, and I didn't notice any serious grammar mistakes. Really loved the blood and gore, and it was really mysterious and intriguing.
You really made this extremely dark and gory, and that touch was well written. It certainly seemed lengthy, and I liked the plot.
It was extremely horrifying, but some corpse fucking could do some good. Well, it's optional.
Really loved the endings though. I'm glad you made them as gory and miserable as possible...
Anyways, great book, great plot and another traumatizing story by Steve. I think you achieved your goal of making children gag and run out the of the room screaming with terror. Ah, I loved this book. I think you did a fantastic job (as usual) my little irish friend, and I rated this a 7/8.

This is the first storygame that I've read by Steve, and I have high expectations for the rest. This was quite good, but I get the feeling that it's not quite up to par with your more popular storygames. My first impression from the beginning was your attention to detail. The situation that the character finds the self in is well given, and creates a set mood for the rest of the storygame. It's far from linear, and there a healthy amount of links for the reader to choose from. I don't like that a few of them are already End game links, but at least they are still well written deaths. :)
Going deeper into the storygame, the writing is very captivating and interests the reader. It compels us to continue with the storygame and to go through the different branches provided. The description give the reader an image for the story, like a movie in our heads. The weird guy from the beginning was really, really creep, so an excellent job with that. I actually liked it though.
I really enjoy that it was such a very long storygame. It gives so many different options for the reader, letting us explore each different path. It's not linear in the slightest.
There wasn't any grammar or spelling error that I noticed, so good job on that. I'm excited to read one of your other storygames, as this one had quite the impression on me. Keep it up, and you'll excel. 7/8

I like the writing. It got a little bit repetitive and I thought the word choice could've been a bit more extensive at times, it used multiple of the same word such as tree in one sentence. My only real gripe with it was that most of the choices seemed to lead to my untimely death, and I was killed 4 times before finally making some progress. A health system would've done this game good.

Really, really good story. Are there even any good endings, or is the least bad one the best?

Your writing style is really good. The sights of the Nightmare Realm were chillingly descriptive. You have a dark imagination.
I went for the lighter and died right away, though, lol.

This story was much better than I expected. Especially with your signature fucked-upedness. I had the choice between two endings and decided on a bitter sweet ending.
All in all this was good, a little horrifying, but very good. It had a good amount of length, description, character development. I did notice the characters were less eccentric than they usually are, it seems you traded that for characters that are far darker....and kind of demented in their own way. I will definitely be reading through a few more times to try and find some of the other endings.
Good work as always.
