No, this isn't some Nazi version of Secret Santa!
While I’m fairly certain most here are familiar with Cards Against Humanity, the creators of that game have once again set out to take an existing game mechanic, tweak it a bit and then slap a big ol’ helping of shock value to it.
Looks like it has worked with their new Secret Hitler game.
Apparently the game plays similar to another game called “Resistance”. If you’re not familiar with that one, a more common example would be the game Werewolf.
The game takes place in pre-WW2 Germany. People get dealt cards of their faction, either fascist or liberal and you attempt to set things in motion so your side wins of course. Fascists either want Hitler to get elected or push all their fascist laws through, while the liberals want to prevent that.
The game itself has made all the fascist characters look like lizard overlords rather than actual Nazis. (Hitler himself just looks like a mean T-Rex) No Swasitkas either, they use more of a skull and crossbones type fascist symbol.
One might ask, well why didn’t they just call it lizard overlords rather than Secret Hitler, well the obvious answer is it wouldn’t have got nearly as much attention if they did that, duh!
All the controversy aside, the gameplay seems solid for what it is. Not sure if I’d buy it, since I’m not really into the Werewolf type games, but I know others are and if I have to play a game like that, well a theme like this would at least make it more enticing. (Sort of like Cards Against Humanity vs. Apples to Apples)
