Player Comments on Choose Your Own Madness
Well...I don't think I was able to find any truly 'good' endings. The most I got was being able to save the sister, but the player character still ended up dying.
I did find this storygame to be really engaging and well-written, with a great sense of atmosphere and feeling of tension building. However, I did feel it got a bit repetitive at times when I made the decision to bring the mentor along. It felt like I was constantly exploring the same rooms over and over again...but when I asked the mentor what I should do, it either resulted in looping back to where I'd been, or a decision that ended with both the player character and the mentor being killed.
I did like the fact there were so many different endings, even though pretty much all of them resulted in the player character, at least, either being killed, or suffering a fate worse than death. If there are more 'good' endings than the one I referenced earlier, it would be good to have more clues included about how to reach them.
The mentor accompanying the player character changed the storygame in a major way, which was really good to see, but there was a lot of room looping, and not much had an impact on the whole. For instance, the front door closes quickly when you try to go up the stairs...and if you explore downstairs...but choosing to try to go upstairs after having explored downstairs results in exactly the same page being reached as if you tried to go upstairs in the first place, which does contradict what went on before.
The little hints and clues of what had been done to the sister, and the glimpses of the cultists, were done really well, and provided a really sinister feel to the exploration of the house, whether with the mentor or alone. I was a bit confused about just what their goal was, though. I found writings detailing the ritual, but no real explanation as to why it was the player character. In fact, I had the strong impression that they and their sister were just chosen on a whim. If this was explored further in the storygame, it could have been really scary, but as it was, I ended up with more questions than answers by the time I reached my final ending before deciding to call it a day.
The ending where the player character wakes up in an asylum was...kind of confusing. I don't know if it was implying that everything was in the player character's head, or if it was some way of the cultists messing with the player character's head. I would have liked a bit more detail about that, but perhaps there's more of an explanation is one of the endings I didn't explore.
I also noticed that the sister seemed to have two names. While exploring the house, she's called Amelia...but if the player character burns the letter they then call the sister Leanne. Not sure if that was deliberate, or perhaps has a hidden meaning that I haven't managed to decipher.
I did enjoy reading this storygame, even though I did get a bit frustrated with constantly being stuck in a loop with no real way of getting out of it after going with the mentor to the house. I will probably revisit this storygame in the future, if only to see if there is actually a better ending to find.

A very intense story :)
The writing in this was superb and it did well in painting an elaborate tale, with little to no flaws in it's narrative. There were plenty of choices available in this, and each choice felt as if it had great impact to the story that was being told. So it really made me pick and choose each choice wisely, as there was consequences to not thinking things through.
Honestly, there's so much here that the author gets right. The atmosphere to be specific, as it felt quite ominous and spooky by a great deal, making this genuinely creepy in some aspects. Such things made this a treat to read to say the least.
Kudos for making a very well-written storygame, one that has powerful writing and descriptions, many choices, and some genuinely tense moments. Exploring every available choice was well worth it in the end, as this was a very solid adventure when all is said and done.
I wouldn't mind seeing more writing from this writer, or even a sequel, because this was very good.

Love love love this story. I actually felt nervous checking the different rooms and corridors. I could actually see the house thanks to your great descriptions. I do wish the ending was a little more exciting, but it was still a happy one.

This game is so fun! My only problem is I'm not sure I'll ever find a "happy" ending!

Burned with my mentor, paralyzed and taken by the eye in the book. More wonderful ways to fail.

I was burned with my parents, suffocated with an snooker cue and my soul was taken by Langdown Hall. Wonderful. Simply wonderful.

Awesome game. The writing is good, and there's a lot of it - great job! Two things though: when exploring the ground floor, the front door is described to close several times, in more paths - when we enter the house, when we go back into the main room...
Also I think you missed a choice to go back to the hall after going to the back corridor.
But really, I loved this and hope you write some more :)

I did NaNoWriMo last year as an assignment for my GT (Gifted and Talented) class! I wanted to do it again this year, but my account isn't working. It looks like a very well-written story that you put a lot of thought into. :3

Wow.
I think you must have done a lot of copy and pasting from Word to get a story this long and good posted in one day :D It's an excellent read, interesting and with a good pace and the choices actually meant something which is always good, 7/8 :)
