Player Comments on Portal World
I get it's called "Portal World", but I don't see the purpose in it nor the changing settings. As mentioned in other comments, this storygame features the "dead-end if you choose wrong link" thing, which is forever annoying.
There is no purpose for the protagonist, no layer in the settings nor characters, no sensible plot, and therefore no entertainment unless you find getting your hand bitten off fun.
This storygame features the potent subject of portals, but does not deal with it well. It needs major improvement and revision.

1/8 for low branching, NON-complex plot, overrating of difficulty(Not really, but I wanted to bring it to your attention), and being very close to linearity (whole story except end has one non-dying path, and end has only six endings including bad, two per destination. Also there is no interaction between individual characters, which while not required would definitely improve the score for this particular story (e.g. diplomacy option for the pirates where you choose what to say? It would have to be much more complex than the rest of the story, no 'one wrong answer? you die, go back and choose the right one'. There's no fun(or pleasure, if you insist) in guess-and-check, and pleasure and helping people develop stories are the only reasons people bother to read any of the books here other than their own)

You could have at least made those turn around places into ending links.

Very poor. Illogical, stupid, with tons of bad spelling/grammar.

I don't like how you just turn back and all your choices, just make alternet endings instead of forcing people to go back

I hated the YOU DIE bits, then it goes back to the previous page, that's annoying and really stupid.

I agree with you that talking just drags on the story, but talking is needed, in that it creates atmosphere in the story. I don't want to hear about the "faster right turn" and the "scenic left turn", I want to hear about the grove of trees and chirping sparrows on the left turn, and the fact that the right turn cuts right through the forest, making it faster. Sure, less talking gets more action right away, but it sacrifices the quality of the plot.

I liked that the pages were not too long to read, but that this... well, it didn't seem all that interesting.

Well, at the very least there was effort...
But the thing that the story is lacking is plot. Grammar is great, but detail and well defined surroundings are lacking-- and they are needed for a good story.

I'm the Maker of this, and I think it's pretty good (but this is my first one and I have nothing to compare it to. I admit, it does have bad parts, but I also like it because there is a not a lot of talking and you just have to read a short big and then do a decision instead of like reading 3 pages and then FINALLY there is a question
