Player Comments on Vault Life
Note: this story is 1/3 actual review, 1/3 review of my old comment, 1/3 "I am fucking idiot" remarks, you've been warned.
I remember this story. I thought it was pretty great, because it was based off one of my favorite games. But, just because I thought it was great doesn't mean it actually is, after all, it's well established I was a fucking idiot when I was 11. And, well, this doesn't exactly hold up too well either.
It's painfully linear, with only a handful of choices that in no way shapes the outcome of the story. There's not even a choice for your character's gender, something that was in the actual game, probably because the author didn't know about scripting or was too lazy to include an alternate path for males. And of course I had to complain about it in a much weirder way when I was younger, because I thought playing as a female protagonist = bad and gay. It's not, but still, when you're basing your story off an RPG where you can choose the player's gender, you should at least include the option or leave the player's gender vague.
The writing was decent. Not bad, not good. Decent. There were a few typos and it's got a lot of "and then this happens" instead of actual writing. The branching and choice aspect is where this story falls super flat, however; it's so linear it might as well have been put up on a fanfiction site instead of a CYOA site. At the very least dumbass 11 year old me commented on that, even if he didn't rate the story lower for it.
I think what really brings this story down aside from that is the fact that it really does nothing new with the Fallout 3 story. There's a few minor changes that are never brought up again, and for the most part it's just a beat for beat novelization of the Fallout 3 prologue with the illusion of choice. And when you're posting something like that on a CYOA site, then it's a problem.
Overall I rate this a 3/8 because of nostalgia for Fallout 3 and the fact that the writing is competent. I rate 11 year old me and his stupid comment a 1/8.

Well, this is good, but it basically just retells the beginning of Fallout 3, (My favorite game of all time as well) which, for some reasons, no one really likes. I always thought it was cool to get attachted to the characters early on, and live through the Lone Wanderer's life.
Alright, the story has amazing grammar, but I don't like that you have to be a girl. The game is basically the same either way, not counting moments where other characters note your gender. And, it wouldn't hurt to rewrite another path to be a boy, just like it wouldn't hurt to have dialouge choices.
As I mentioned earlier, the player has no real dialouge choices when interacting with characters. It basically has you talking to people and picking the rudest options there are. I always tried to be nice when interacting with good characters, and I was a dick to bad characters.
Either way, although the game has it's flaws, it's still very good. Vault Life gets a 6/8. It's definately worth every cent.

If anyone reads this while trying to decide whether or not to read it, just play Fallout 3. This is just a written out form of what happens in the introduction of the game.
The grammar is okay. There are some places where your and you're are used wrong. The sentence structure is decent for what this story is.
The gameplay itself is just... boring. The character isn't engaging in the slightest. It is also extremely linear. None of the choices you make actually affect the story.
Overall 4/10

Fairly enjoyable, it was fun to be flirty with butch but I wish it was longer. I wish I was able to purse a normal life in the vault and a romance with butch. Or at least an ending with a similar result. Still entertaining though.

For the most part, this is basically the intro of Fallout 3. I'd rather play the actual video game.

Never played Fallout, so it was kind of confusing to me. Still, it was a fun and well written game, so good job.

Wow, this was a lot of fun. As a fan of Fallout, it made me want to play it again. You did a great job translating it from a game to a story.

Excelent rendition of the start of Fallout 3, might have benefited from more branching within the confines of the source material. Looking forward to a continuation.

It's alright, but since I played Fallout 3 also, it was not really exciting for me to play the tutorial all over again in story format. And some pages, like the beginning page, need more detail.
I did, however, like the fact that you decided to go down an alternate plot for the end. And I did see that you were establishing what sort of person the main character is through the beginning sequence, so I guess I can see why you didn't include all the possible scenarios.
I am looking forward to a sequel, to see where you take this new story.

The plot was great, and the details where right. I was unsettled a little by how your choices had little effect on what has or will happen.

In the beggining, I assume you were supposed to care the mother, but I couldn't care less about her. The descriptions of her were not enough to implant a idea that she was a good person, so I didn't care for her. You need to add description about each character and everything that is happening so that the reader knows and cares about the story. Butch did one thing, but it didn't mean anything to the story.
However, most of the writing was good, so 5/8

I really liked the story, but I think it would be better if you gave more choices and a clearer sense of who was saying what when people talk. ^_^
