I am planning on starting a new story game soon, a fantasy one. How can I stay away from the worst and most common cliches? I'm new, so any advice helps a lot. :3

Why do you want to? Cliches are cliches for a reason. People like them and expect them.

It's not that hard, just twist some things in a new (or somewhat uncommon) way.  

Don't worry about cliches at all, you'll never have something 100% original and even if you did, that's not really an accomplishment in itself. I'd suggest just focus on improving your prose and polishing above all. As long as the plot makes sense and characters have understandable motivations you're golden.
