xD Thanks. :D
Well, this is what it's supposed to be (note: It's sounds so bad. Not all of it even rhymes...)
You’re made out of carbon.
Without it, you’re not alive.
It makes the macromolecules
That make sure you don’t die.
There are many bonds carbon can make;
Single, double, triple.
It’s because it has four valence electrons.
This may all seem so simple.
But carbon can bond with carbon
To make branches, rings, and chains.
They make up important backbones
Like for lipids in the cell membrane.
Carbohydrates’ monomers are
Monosaccharides of
Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
1:2:1 ratio; no lack of thereof.
They’re mostly used for energy
And not long term storage,
Unlike our next macromolecule
That may test your vocab knowledge.
Lipids are not polymers;
They are made of three fatty acid tails
That are attached to glycerol
And can be used for a few things.
They’re for long-term energy storage
And make up plasma membranes
With their hydrophilic heads and
Hydrophobic tails—for the membrane to sustain.
They’re made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
And pretty much waterproof.
Along with proteins in the cell membrane,
The cell membrane is almost foolproof.
Proteins are made of a bit more elements;
Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen
Because of their diverse amino acids
They can also be made of sulfur and selenium.
Their monomers are amino acids,
Which are coded by DNA.
So proteins have more job ranges
And a bit more leeway.
Instead of listing a bunch of jobs,
I’ll just say the most important.
Enzymes are a major part
Of why you’re body is so potent.
Biochemical reactions are sped up
By these 3-D globs of peptides.
For example, they work in your mouths and stomach
On the food you had just supplied.
By lowering activation energy,
Enzymes speed up reactions.
However there’s a limit to the amount needed—
The point of saturation.
However, they can change shape and not work
If not under the right conditions.
Temperature or pH too high or low
Can lead to denaturation.
Last but not least is nucleic acid,
With the typical three important elements
But also nitrogen and phosphorus.
They make up DNA and RNA that direct your cell processes.
Back to the start, you can’t have this
Without our lovely element carbon.
Literally, no carbon, no life,
So let’s give it a round of applause now at The End. :)
