Newbie here. I've gone through most of the Help & Info articles, but I can't find a tutorial on how to give the player the option to set their own name to be used throughout the game. Is it even possible? Any help is much appreciated!

The easiest solution is to provide a list of setting appropriate names for them to choose from, have that set a variable, and then use use on page scripting to reference it in the text. This would be the way to add a gender choice too, which I guess would be the next step if you're going this route.

There is a method discussed in one of BZ's articles for letting the player actually write in a name letter by letter, but it's so clunky and tedious it's hardly worth it on the author's part for what it adds.

Third option would be some kind of Javascript sorcery to let them type in a name, if you know anything about that.

Ultimately though, no one is going to complain if you write a storygame about a set character just like in any other fiction, that's the norm here and some actually prefer it.
