Hero Tower Blurb

This is just a blurb for one of my stories, Hero Tower to be more exact.  It's an optional dialogue page towards the beginning of the story, I just want to see what people think of it.  It essentially is about the main character and his wizard friend discussing magic and visions.  The laws of magic and portals is kind of complicated so if it seems like they don't fully understand magic, it is because they don't.  Especially ancient magic.  Any ways hope y'all enjoy this short blurb.

As you leave the tent with all the other officers you see Tonin standing with arms crossed over his staff, peering into the hills and fog.

"Something on your mind old man?" you ask.

"Ah, hello my young friend," Tonin says,"I was hoping to see you."

"For what?" you ask.

Tonin's usual calm demeanor becomes worried, his voice becoming grave.

"The Tower...it has some unbearable power echoing from it," Tonin says,"its almost like...like it knows we're coming.  It gets more and more powerful with each passing day.  You remember those strange obelisks we've seen dotting the lands recently?"

You nod your head as you think back to the large stone pillars you often find near the enemies encampments and strongholds.

"I believe these are what allows the enemy passage through to our realm, but there may be a way to stop it," Tonin's mood brightens,"you see, every magic needs a power source.  I believe that if we can get to the Tower and destroy the main obelisk....it'll shut off the magic source for the rest of them.  This is how we can stem the tide....and save our home."

You almost laugh but hold yourself back out of respect.

"Tonin, old man.  There is no tide to stem, we've already done it,"you say,"we have the forces of Despair at the tip of our swords."

"No, do not underestimate them Merek," Tonin says,"they're dealing with a magic far beyond your comprehension.  They likely have armies of soldiers waiting to be moved through, but moving legions of soldiers through a portal to another realm is.....complicated."

"Alright, I see your point," you say,"we'll worry about it when we get there."

You turn to leave before stopping to ask Tonin one more thing.

"You said the obelisk seems to know we're getting closer, what did you mean by that?"

"What it means is that...while the obelisk isn't a sentient being, I suspect its been embued with some sort of ancient magic that can detect and read the life forces of living beings." Tonin says.

The old man takes a moment to stroke his beard before continuing.

"That may all be speculation, but I have studied the smaller obelisks, and I've seen them embue others with magic.  It is a strange thing to see."

You raise an eyebrow.

"So you're saying it can choose who it wants to give magic to?"

"Yes, I believe so....but I'm worried more about the outcome of this."

"Why is that?"

"Do you remember the dreams I had been having, about the Tower?"

You nod.

"I had for seen this day, along with many others...you could say it is a power gifted to me by the divine.  Yet something troubles me...I...I have failed to receive any visions save for a few."

"Well what did you see old man?" You ask worriedly.

"I saw untold amounts of blood and death....then it only gets blurry from there, but I did see something after the foggy part of my vision."

Tonin's countenance only gets darker.

"I briefly saw what appeared to be everlasting peace, but then it was invaded by....armies.  Weapons of death and destruction, magic of unfathomable proportions, and an evil that can know no mortal boundaries.  I've seen a dark day ahead of us....followed by an even darker night."
