I'm not sure how to describe this. Quoting in the forums is like this:

1: I don't like the idea of ....
2: I do like the idea of....
3. (a square box comes up with what person 1 said because 3 is replying to them, not number 2) Shut up.

Obviously shut up isn't a good example as it is not tolerated on the boards (nate sort of inspired this idea) but you know what I mean. On a forum I used to be on they had it. If you don't know what I mean, I'll give you a link to the other forum. It's just handy for everybody to know who you're replying to.
