Anyways, I thought the pokemon system would be good to base (ie, rip off), our combat system:
All cards have a name, max HP, description and picture.
The attacks are listed below the information, with attack damage and Energy card cost (energy cards are like ammunition)
It uses an "RPS" style attack system so: Grass beats Water, therefore grass attacks work twice as well and water attacks work half as well.
It has "Poisoned", "Paralysed", "Burned" and "Sleep" states (poison and burn makes the victim lose HP, Paralysed units might not be able to attack, and sleeping units cannot attack for 2 turns)
You can withdraw a unit and sub in another (the withdrawn unit drops it's incapacitacion). This takes one turn.
The game is mostly based on skill, with coin flipping used when paralysed or to determine the outcome of advanced attacks.
You can "evolve" a unit, playing the evolved card over the base card. this takes one turn
Actually, maybe we could use the RPS 25 gestures as types...
These guidelines would make for a nice game (and better duels). The only problem is they would have multiple turns, so we would need to store the information.
I like the idea about people designing their own and I also have a few ideas about that:
A creator's signature
A set of "points" used so the creator doesnt make an invincible card, but is forced to divide the points between HP and attack.
The attacks should be designed by the admins (preferably someone who has used the pokemon cards
Each user below 500 points should design one, each user above should design 3, each Mod should design 5 and the admins should design 7. (designing should be optional, though.)
