Maturity filter

Could it be possible to add a new filter option with maturity level?  This could be useful for younger readers.

Hmm, I see you are right, though I could swear I saw one yesterday...

This is a useful idea.

Heheh, no pun intended Rommel?

Yeah, this would be good, but also note that the regular member could change their age at any time. And also, it would bring some errors, as JJJ's The Tower is rated 7 - anything goes, which is apparently the equivalent of R18+. JJJ wouldn't be able to play his own storygame then.

I thought he meant the voluntary filter.  You know, when you access the story page, you can set it to min rating, min/max length and min/max difficulty.  The suggestion is to add a max maturity filter.  Each member could set it for himself.

Oh, it's voluntary? There shouldn't be many problems then. Some of the younger people who like trophies will be annoyed if they can't rate storygames though. I know the focus of the site is writing, but some people seem focused on trophies, and it may cause an uproar.

I'm all for it though.

Why not just change the wording of the maturity ratings, so it's more targeted. Ie, "Suitable for all ages" "Contains strong violence" "Contains coarse language" and that sort of thing, or a simple "recommended G+"   "13+"   "15+"   "18+" to give visitors a better idea of how it compares to what they might watch on TV or whatever. I think maturity rating or filter is important, and can imagine if a parent visited the site to see if it was suitable for their child, and the first thing they looked at was an "18+" story, they might wonder if the whole site is only full of strong content, or if there is any stuff suitable for children.

As always, though, there will be younger people who read anything regardless. It's just like young kids going to a video store and hiring out Nightmare on Elm Street or something. Many people tend to read or watch what they want to regardless of whether it is suitable - but more conservative people would respect the ratings - especially if they could tell with a glance what the rating meant.
