I have gone through the story about ten times, and have yet to open up the door in the basement section of the open house. I am also having trouble finding a way to kill the dinosaur (if you're supposed to kill it, that is). Would anyone mind giving me hints, or straight answers?

Yes but the search is also broken haha. One of them is linked in the storygames comments I think.
