Well, I have recently become hooked to the fantasy genre and have read quite a few books since I last logged in to this site, however, even as I read I still felt the urge to read some fantasy so I thought, hey, why not make my own little story, that way I can make the story in a way to satisfy me, so, just an hour ago I started writing away something and I was gonna keep on writing before I realized that I need someone to check if I made any mistakes... so here I am!
I know I am not perfect at English and nor do I claim to be so what you read will probably have quite a few grammar mistakes in them, so I am truly sorry for those!
Chapter 1: A simple life
The wind outside was howling like a pack of wolves was right next to my window, either waiting for me to open the window or feed them something. I would've been glad if it were wolves howling, at least I would be able to chase them away with some effort, but you can't chase away the wind whatever effort you put into it, so I sighed in defeat and rose from my bed. The room was pitch black, as if we were living in a black hole or something and no light could enter in here.
Despite this, I knew where every object in this room was, so with the expert knowledge of my room, I managed to find the TV remote and clicked the red button to turn it on. The sudden light nearly blinded my eyes before I managed to shield them with my hand. The sound on the other hand was almost muted and my ears were now struggling to try and hear anything.
Soon, however, my eyes adjusted to the light of the TV and I was able to look at it like a normal person would. Right now, there was supposed to be a old and cheesy horror movie, but currently there were commercials on. So I rose from the couch and went to the kitchen to grab a snack. As soon as I reached the kitchen, I turned the light on and checked through the cupboards to see whatever was inside. There were four bags of pretzels and three bags of peanuts present there. Normally, here I would try to decide which of them I would begin chowing, but I despised peanuts and so I grabbed a bag of pretzels and went back to the living room.
As I sat on the couch again, I felt myself sinking in it like a ship who took on too much water. I put the bag of pretzels on the dining table in front of me and let my entire weight sink in the couch. My eyelids started to feel heavy as only silence came from outside, the winds having stopped howling. Soon my mind went blank, for what I thought a few seconds, before they opened up again as the wind decided that I wouldn’t get to sleep tonight.
As I tried to move my left hand to fetch the bag of pretzels, it felt incredibly hard for me to move it. I started trying to move my right hand, thinking that I had sleep paralysis, but I could move with no hindrance whatsoever, so I looked at my left hand to see that it had claimed by a young lass who hugged my hand as if it was her dearest friend. It took me a moment to recognize her features, but I was able to quickly notice them. She had long white hair like you see in all of those anime, her eyes were shut so I couldn’t see their color, her skin was quite pale, though from what I didn’t know why, all she was wearing was a black night gown, a large contrast to her otherwise pale complexion. But my brain recognized who this person that was clinging onto my arm was, it was my younger sister named Anna.
“Sis, are you awake?” I mumbled, barely enough for her to hear, but it seems that she did hear me as she groggily opened up her eyes. They were the a very light blue, even more so that you could mistake them for white eyes from a relative distance.
“What?” she asked, rubbing her eyes.
“Did I wake you up?” I asked, with a slight hint of worry. Unlike me, where I have recently graduated a history college, she was still in middle school in the eighth grade, and so she needed quite a lot of sleep, unlike me, who all I did was stream myself playing a game on the internet for a few hours and made quite a lot of cash. Yes, I was myself a streamer, one of those streamers quite a few people didn’t really like.
“Hmm, no, I just couldn’t sleep.” she answered as she looked at the TV.
“But you have school tomorrow.” I told her. “You should at least try to get some sleep.”
In response she looked at me with a confused expression. “Tomorrow’s Saturday, bro.” She said with a weary smile. “I can go to sleep as late as I want today!”
Too tired to argue with her, I just shrugged and looked at the TV as the commercials were over and the movies started again. It was a cheesy and low budget vampire movie, currently the vampire had captured the damsel in distress and was now proceeding to suck her of her blood. I could see that this made my sister uncomfortable, but I knew that it wasn’t because of the blood, it was because she had a rare condition called vampirism. Now don’t go on thinking that my sister is a blood sucking vampire, no. This badly named condition was the cause to her pale skin, after all the sunlight was quite painful to her, which also made her a bit special at school, and not in a good way.
With my free hand, I grabbed the remote and changed the channel and got in to a nature channel. It showed a pride of lions taking down a buffalo, there was quite a lot of blood and gore, but that didn’t seem to faze her all that much as she started to smile again. I couldn’t help myself and patted her on the head, knowing that she usually like it when I did it. She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder, her eyelids slowly starting to close until she fell asleep. Pleased, I yawned and allowed my couch to take me to dreamland, the best place of all.
10 minutes later...
I was running on the street, panicked, screaming was heard all around me. “Anna!” I shouted at the top of my lungs and kept running towards my home, sword in hand. “Anna!” I shouted again at the top of my lungs, yet again as I was closing in to my home. To my horror, the door was broken down and my mind jumped to the worst possibilities, she was dead, no, she was killed then eaten, or worse, she was raped, then killed and consumed. I shook my head in an attempt to push these thoughts out of my mind and warily entered the building, the stench of blood brought these thoughts back to him and closed in to the living room.
He found a gnoll staring at his sister, with sadness rather then anger or anything. He could notice that the sword of the gnoll was coated in blood and right on the couch was a small green humanoid, most likely a goblin or something similar. The green humanoid had quite a few stab wounds on it, most likely from the gnoll.
“Face me, beast!” I shouted to the gnoll, who turned towards me with no great surprise, as if it knew I was there from the start of all this. He nodded at me and slowly backed down from Anna.
I knelt next to her and started shaking her, thinking that maybe she was just out cold. But after a minute or so, I opened one of her eyes, as soon as I did however, all my will to live left my body, my mind went blank and tears started rolling down from my face. Her eyes were blank like the eyes of a dead fish. Though the fatal wound wasn’t visible, it was clear to me... she was dead.
All of a sudden I felt something shaking me while I head someone call for me “Jason, wake up!” I could hear the worried voice of my sister. “Wake up already!” she said as my vision started to get blurry all of a sudden before it started to clear again. In front of me was my sister looking quite worried. Though at first I didn’t know why, I could feel tears falling from my eyes, thought it was beyond me why.
So, what do you think? Feel free to be as critical as possible. Oh, note to @Delta44 and @Claw2k11, this story is tied into Legendary, I do hope I get your permission for this! Also, note that I will probably not post this story on this site, I just posted this here because there are a fair share of good writers and critics.
