What's the range that appropriately fits

In everyone's own opinion, how long would you say a page word length is before you let the reader have an option to make? Shortest I have is around 200 words and longest is around 1300 words.

Somehow I completely missed this thread. (And I guess so did everybody else.)

This has been asked a few times before, and the consensus has been that you usually don't want to go much over 1000 before considering adding a choice, or at least split off onto a second page to break things up a little if you need more than that to arrive at a natural branch point.

Thanks, this is helpful to know and don't worry too much about missing what I'd asked. I myself have been pretty busy so I'm just glad for the bit of help for when I do have time to write.
