In all honestly, I forgot where I had heard the term Terran. lol So much for that. Honestly, Terran sounds cooler than Earthling, so that's why I chose it.
Frankly the connection between SC and TMW is solely the term Terran. The stories are very different for so many reasons. Obviously there are no aliens at all in TMW, unless you're a Pro-Terran bastard and consider Martians inferior aliens.
Speaking of which... When I was designing the Pro-Terrans, I decided to take a lot of cues from the National Socialist German Worker's Party. The doctrine of intolerance and turning a people into some sort of monster or inferior thing during Hitler's reign is reborn in this futuristic society, where a corrupt media burns into the minds of the Terran public the notion that Martians are born to be a cancer - which is what term the Pro-Terrans use, since cancer is still very much a common threat - of Terrans. So the moral of the story is ignorance is the seed of violence.
In fact, for most of the ideas in TMW, I modeled it off of present or past, events, people, and ideals. Even spaceships, I modeled after submarines whether they're in combat or what have you. The spaceships even look like submarines for the most part - they're large tubes that rotate to generate artificial gravity. Ugly, but practical. I didn't want Enterprises or anything sexy. No deflector shields. In fact, laser technology for military use, along with gauss weaponry, is still in the development process and is fairly crude.
So I hope to give the public a new vision of the future. No UFO's, no laser guns. Titanium tubes and interplanetary bigotry, and a somewhat bleak and pessemistic yet realistic vision.
