Some issues with textbox (advanced editor)

I've noticed when I copy paste text from Microsoft Works Word Processor into the text box (advanced editor) for a page, and then try editing it, the spacing is all screwed up. To give an example... if I make a brand new page and don't copy/paste anything and just type a few paragraphs, whenever I press Enter, it will take me to a new line, but there's space between the lines. This is how it should be, since this is how it will look in the actual story.

However... when I use my copy/paste method, there is no space between the lines (even though there IS space when I view the story). It's pretty frustrating, because to prevent unnecessary spaces being made in the actual story, I have to keep all the paragraphs very close together, making it difficult to read. I want to be able to transfer text between the textbox and msword seamlessly so I can spellcheck and proof read as needed.

There's also another issue where (after copying/pasting), if I try to select one line, like say "Chapter 1" and apply centering to it, it'll instead apply centering to the entire page. I have to mess with it and do some manual editing in source mode to fix it. Very annoying.

I realize there's little hope of this being fixed, but if anyone could recommend a word processor that doesn't cause this issue, or another workaround, I'd appreciate it.

Some more discoveries. The same problems exist with copying/pasting from Wordpad. Also, if, after copying/pasting, I press Enter under a line, it will do two things.

1. Spacing will appear both above the very first line and under the line that I pressed Enter after. So basically:

"This is a test. Yada yada."

Say I pressed Enter with the cursor after "test." Where I expect "Yada yada." to appear on a new line directly under the first one, it will instead appear with spacing between the two. This spacing cannot be written in, it's just there. As it should be, but it only appears under this circusmtance. If I press backspace, the spacing will vanish again and it's back to being inaccurate.

2. If I have a lot of text in the textbox, pressing Enter will ROCKET me down to the very bottom of the page. This is extremely annoying, and makes editing in the texbox with pasted text way too frustrating.

I figured out a work-around for now. I'll just have to do all my writing in the actual textbox, then copy and paste it from there to msword whenever I need to proof-read. It's a bit tedious, but oh well.

EDIT: Nevermind, I actually just tried this method and it turns up the same results but in reverse. Copying and pasting from the textbox will result in no spacing showing up in msword, even when I specifically formatted it to have them. Ugh. Wordpad isn't much better, as it not only has spacing but adds actual spaces between the lines too, plus wordpad doesn't have spellcheck.

While this is all pretty frustrating, I guess my copy/paste to msword method still works. It's ugly, but it doesn't impair the spell-check, which is the main reason I need to do it. I'd appreciate any other ideas people have to resolve this issue though, or how they go about it. Thanks.

there are a lot of weird errors that occur on occasion to people who use internet explorer. i dont think that is likely to be the problem, but it could be. i have no problem with copy and paste personally. you could try using firefox.

Yeah, we know! It's annoying but I just use firefox (install the add-on which spellchecks) and write directly into the text box :)

I assume the point of that link was the tip to use shift + enter? Thanks by the way for both of your help, but uh.. any idea where I can actually find the add-on besides clicking on the icon? Rather, could you check your Tools > Add-ons in Firefox and tell me the name of your add-on? Then I can just google for it, but I don't want to download the wrong kind of add-on and screw up my Firefox. Thanks.

Thanks but, that's for Internet Explorer. I use Firefox. I'll wait and see if 3J can give me the exact name of his add-on, and if that fails I'll just use my work-around.

The point of the link was just to demonstrate that it's already posted and that other people have encountered the same issue. I do it regularly because sometimes there's useful information in the other thread and it helps me keep things in order.

I use "After the Deadline 1.50" extension for Firefox.

I have the built-in spell-checker for Firefox already, but it doesn't do anything for me on this site. I thought that maybe I was lacking a dictionary so I tried downloading the English (US) one and installing that but... nope... I just restarted and there's still -nothing- so... I don't know what to do. I appreciate all the help though, so thanks again. If 3J's got no more advice I'll just work around it the hard way.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having a similar issue. The text is just fine when I paste it in the box, but whenever I go to add a link to a new page the formatting gets all screwed up, like every space between paragraphs turns into two or three.

And if that wasn't annoying enough, even if I'm willing to go back and meticulously fix every page after posting, a lot of the times (even when it looks fine in the editor) the spacing issues are still there when you go to actually read the story. It's ugly and I hate it, especially whenever there's dialogue. All that white space, yuck.

...not that I'm really expecting anyone to be able to do anything about this, just complaining because I'm annoyed you all need to KNOW I'm annoyed, dammit.

Try going to your account settings and turning off the advanced editor for a moment, take a look at what the story says in the editor.
