I'm from the United States as well. I live in Florida, to be a bit more specific.

I am from the United States. I also live in Florida.

I'm from Australia. More specifically I live about an hour's drive from Melbourne.

I live in Alabama, which is in the southern United States.

Nevertheless, I live in the US.  At the southern end of the California central valley.

Am I the only person who refers to the United States as America haha?

I originally came from the ocean, then evolved, then migrated, then migrated to a very diverse continent, and then went to live in forests of giant grass, then migrated to a swampy area to eat rice, got conquered by French, then got conquered by my Northern variants, then travelled ALL the way to another VERY diverse land.  Then I came from my parent, I walked my first steps, etc.  Finally, I came to a suitable area to type.

Think 1970.  What was going on during that time?

Definitely not, though it does play into that people-of-the-US-think-the-US-is-the-entire-world stereotype. Technically a Canadian or a Chilean could call themselves American as well.

I refer to the United States as: the States.

America or the US/USA just sound weird to me.

The good thing is:

I live 6 hours south of you.

I need to go farther away from you.

You thinking it's not wrong doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.

It doesn't matter whether or not you're in a testing center or on the subway, the English language was made a certain way. Even I type "gonna" or "cause" sometimes, but that doesn't mean you'll see my entire posts written like that. I can tell you're trying to be deep or profound or whatever you want to call it, but when someone reads your posts all they see is someone who probably flunked out of English class.

The elipses don't really help either.

an elipses is a group of three periods put together to indicate time progressing or to cut out a part of a quote that is irrelevant.

Not the only one, but the correct term is actually the "United States" because that is the actual shortening of the name and the Americas aer two continents. We are called the "United States" because after the revolution each of the former thirteen colonies were individual political states before they united under the Articles of Confederation.

So, the "United States" is the shortening of our country, while "America" is the landmass our country is on.
