Dust off a seat and discuss a good book here...you do read, right?

MY ex was big into vampire novels.  I wound up reading my share of novels from Sonya Blue to everything Anne Rice has EVER written.  I even started the San Germain chronicles, but the truth is I've never read a vampire book better than Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin.  Pick it up if you're a fan of the genre.

So Fevre Dream is good? I looked at it and almost grabbed about a hundred times... I love Martin, he's one of the best writers I've come accross, but I was a bit frightened by the prospect of a vampire book from him and was hesitant to read it because I thought it would shatter my opinion of him.

If you've never read anything else by Martin, do so; he's great. I'll be picking this one up based on your recommendation, so thanks march.

(Have you picked up any Tom Holland books? Lord of the Dead is a great novel of the vampire genre; the writing is almost poetic which is sort of fitting seeing as how the protagonist is Lord Byron)

I haven't read any Tom Holland but will happily pick it up.  Haven't had much of a chance to do any leisurely reading lately considering the amount of school work I have had.  My responsibilities are starting to slim down some, so I should have a chance in the near future.  Also, can you recommend another Martin book?  Fevre dream struck me as a very original take on vampirism in a very different writing style.  I don't promise it'll compare with his other books, but I do promise that reading it will be memorable.

Immerse yourself with his fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. First book is A Game of Thrones.

He is very in depth; and the more you read, the more unsure you are as to who actually are the heroes and who are the villains.

He also wrote Windhaven with Lisa Tuttle, and that was a great book too.

I have the first in the series. It's good, but I don't like books which start with names for people and/or organisations without giving them introductions, so I never really got into it. I'll try starting it again tonight. Seeing you recommended it, I'll be committed to finishing it.

You won't regret it October. You'll want the rest of them too, probably. It stands as my favorite fantasy series of all time.
