Not sure why I didn't bring this up earlier...
Has anyone else read any of the books in the Halo Novel Series? It's a great series and gives you a lot of cool backstory to the game. In fact, it really pays off to have read the books. There's one part in a level in Halo 3 which only people who read the book could truly appreciate.
So far, there are five books released (The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, and Contact Harvest), but there's a sixth book being written currently; it's called The Cole Protocol. Can't wait!

Yeah I've heard of the series, but I haven't read any books out of it.  You know a lot of times I think about buying the first book and reading it but then something in me stops me from it.  I know this is stupid but the concept of buying a book based on a video game freaks me out, I hear that the books are good though and there's a chance I may read them in the future but for now I just can't bring myself to do it.

Except for The Flood, the books are virtually unattached to the games. Duh, they're in the same universe, and The Flood is almost a walkthrough of Halo 1, but other than that it's all backstory - and good backstory at that. If one reads the books, one can appreciate the game, and vice-versa.

Yes, I read First Strike. Not bad at all. Rest assured it was not written by a Halo 3 player who thinks they're God because they have an XBOX 360. I hate those arseholes soooo much.

But like I said, the book I read at least was good Space Opera. It seemed like one of the Star Wars novels a bit.

Seth, do you ever get depressed that no one reads the award-winning literary books you post about, yet when people post about kids' books or series based on video games, everyone rushes to join the thread?

The fact is, the Halo novel series is a cool sci-fi universe, and it just happens to be based on a video game. Contact Harvest doesn't even include the Master Chief in it. So it's not just some Xbox 360 marketing tool - well, yes it is, but...SHUT UP! - it's a respectable universe. If you're into sci-fi, check out the Halo series. Or I'll kill you.

In today's news, the government unveiled its controversial new literacy program "Read or Die."
