I love the series, don't get me wrong, but every time I end 8, its all like,

"OOOOOP! YA KILLED ALL YAH FWENDS! NOW YA GOTTA FIGHT YASELF!"

And then, if I try to fight myself, and I died because we were evenly matched.

When I played through it again, I just stalled by listening and smelling and boosting reflexes and stuff.

Then the bad guy's all like,

"DANGIT I COULDN'T TRICK YA THAT TIME! BETTER PULL A FREIZA!"

And he kills me.

WAT.

Gotta bore him. 

Like stalling?

The more people he has to recreate, the more of his own power he consumes. The more people you have on your team, the more replicas he makes for you to fight, and therefore, the weaker he becomes. I suspect you just didn't have enough group members to weaken him to a level where he becomes beatable.
