Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

This thread makes me wondering about most of the readers' preferences and interests. I wonder what kind of writing and storyline the majority of them prefer. Those can have huge impacts on rating.

If we're just going by number of reviews, most readers preferences seem to be for stories of a 3/8 length or less, regardless of genre. Or quality.

Games like TOW and Mommy are enjoyable to them though.

Yeah, looks like most of us prefer shorter pages with storyline-focused writing. Get to the point, know what the characters doing and get off the boring stuff quickly. Fast-paced, but interesting stories. I believe that's one of the keys for a good rating.

I predict most of the readers prefer shorter paragraphs that are focused on storyline. But many enjoyed EndMaster's works too. I think how interesting the storyline and characters are the most valuable points.

Try to make anything that's 'special' and 'unique' than others storylines. That might grab more attention.

You're missing miz's point. it's not that the short games get good ratings.  it's that people play them even though they aren't very good.

It's not that anyone "prefers" smaller stories, its that your more likely to finish and rate a bad short story, as opposed to a longer one, where you're more likely to just stop playing if you dislike it.

Look at rating + number of reviews to determine what most people like.
