The Secret of Daphne

The little town of Daphne boasts a population of only 300 people and is between twenty and thirty miles away from the nearest neighboring town. A historical main street has restaurants, cafes, and clothing stores. Meanwhile, the local high school is a small, tight knit group with only 40 students in the current graduating class.

The Snow family moves in from a distant, urban city into an old ranch house on the outskirts of Daphne. Their new house is picturesque with beautiful rolling hills, blooming dogwood trees, and horse pastures in the neighboring properties. For awhile they believe they have found the answers to their problems. Mr. and Mrs. Snow begin to heal from their recent betrayal of each others trust, Lydia, their seventeen year old daughter, finds solace in the quiet country side, and their four year old, Wren, is always running around the endless property.
But, when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Lydia finds an old diary hidden away in the new house. As she reads its passages, she begins to realize that there is more to the citizens of Daphne than meets the eye. As she reads about the past, it begins to correspond eerily with the present. And when her little sister begins to only spend time with her new imaginary friend, everyone is on edge.
Lydia begins to withdraw, uncertain of who to trust, as she reads about the abuse and betrayal of the writer of the mysterious diary. When the diary ends suddenly, leaving the end of the story a complete mystery, Lydia begins to lose her sanity. Is everything happening just in her head? Or is there really something sinister going on behind the scenes of Daphne? And if something is going on, just what is it? And what does it have to do with the diary?

Check it out - It's pretty darn sweet! cool

The Secret of Daphne

Agreed! Though it's probably best to avoid the bad endings at night.

The Secret of Daphne

Yup, won't lie. A particular ending kept me up one night and I'm the one that wrote it XD

The Secret of Daphne

Aww thank you!

PS. I just realized in the main post I misstyped without and put with... -_- I'm sure you know I mean I couldn't have done the scripting without you :P

I've gotten two endings, one of which was the best (That's what I was told at least haha) and the other ended pretty badly for me, but I won't go into details as to not spoil.

Edit: I just found another ending that was better than my bad ending, and all I did was click time progresses for it to happen haha. Turns out being lazy can be good for you after all.

Lol, yeah I've noticed that that happens some. The way I set it up, technically it should calculate the items and non item evidence found by the player, but once it sends you to the path you 'earned', then it's all up to your choices ;)

The Secret of Daphne

Alright, I have to unpublish for a few minutes to go in and fix two major issues that have been pointed out to me. It shouldn't take long to fix, then I'll republish :)

The Secret of Daphne

I'm assuming this should be featured. What do we think it should replace? (I'll need to play it first to see if I agree with the commenters but I'm assuming it's amazing)

The Secret of Daphne

Wow, that is a huge compliment. Thank you :)

331 Oakmount Drive seems like the weakest one.

Personally I think Buried is overated (so will probably be the next one bumped out), but Oakmount seems like the weakest of the feature ones right now.

TBH I haven't played Oakmount though, so I can only base this off of it's ratings.

There is a misspelled word in the first couple of pages, and does the numbers book affect how I view the numbers?

The Secret of Daphne

Can you please message me title the of page with the error on it.

The Numerology book counts as a non-item piece of evidence. It effects your overall score. However, the only way it effects the way you view the numbers is that it tells you how to solve  the sequences. There is a hidden part of the game in which you have the chance to attempt to crack the code, which will reward you with a special item from Cynthia.

I only noticed very minor spelling issues on two pages and will PM you the info...

The Secret of Daphne

Thanks! I went in and fixed the errors you found. And I also found a couple myself that I fixed. :D Thanks so much!

It is awesomely written with use of various items but I don't think it is much better than other featured storygames.

The Secret of Daphne

Like Killa, I think Buried is overrated, but Oakmount Drive is the weakest featured game in my opinion. I think Daphne is strong enough to replace either, but I'd recommend it replacing Oakmount Drive.

I'm probably gonna get hate for this, but I don't like Endmaster's Geek. It doesn't fit in the horror field in my opinion.

The Secret of Daphne

I'm really very honored everyone thinks my game should be featured. :) I'm also proud to say it's held a steady 8/8 rating since being published and played around 300 times(the count reset twice around 100 plays when I went to fix bugs).

What I was curious to ask if ya'll would be interested in me creating a prequel of sorts? Some of you probably found the hidden demonology book in the game and it referenced a 'historical story'(not really historical obviously). I was thinking of taking that story and turning it into a game as a prequel to Daphne if any one would be interested in something like that :)

The Secret of Daphne

That would be cool, since historical documents can be false, you could probably include multiple endings.

The Secret of Daphne

Yes, I may let the player play as the Exorcist sent to investigate the cult colony, Or as Penelope(the forced Vassal). And perhaps the 'mystery' to uncover will be who was the original summoner/contracted person of the demon?

The Secret of Daphne

Oh yes, there would be at least 6 endings in this one as well :)

The Secret of Daphne

Playing as the excorsist would be cool, since we don't know what happened to him. Bit playing as Penelope would definitely bring in the real horror story.

The Secret of Daphne

Well in the demonology book the *spoiler* cult murdered him and disemboweled him. Penelope ate his heart. His head and robes were sent to the local nobility. While the rest of his body was used in rituals. *spoiler*

But, considering all the info is a 'demonology book' which I made up XD. I think I'd have pretty free reign over the story. I may give player's a choice to play as the priest or Penelope at the beginning.

The Secret of Daphne

Hmm, I must off read to quickly. XD

Playing as the guy who summoned The demon would be cool.

The Secret of Daphne

I considered that as well... But, I think it might be better if I let him actually be the "secret" this time around since the demon is already exposed as far as anyone who has played Daphne goes. :)

The Secret of Daphne

But the horror would be really cool. It's like playing necromancer, you're playing as the villain. How you catch the excorsist and Penelope would be Intresting.

The Secret of Daphne

Well, by playing Penelope you are, in a sense, playing as the demon himself as she is*spoiler* successfully possessed *spoiler* according the 'book'.

The Secret of Daphne

Okay. I'm going to feature this for its expansiveness. I'm not sure if the writing itself is up to the quality of Buried or 331 Oakmount, there are numerous tense errors throughout the story and near the end I ran into some scripting errors (paragraphs that repeated twice with only slight differences, etc.) but nonetheless, it was engaging and I felt myself thinking about it well after I finished it.

The Secret of Daphne

I'm just not sure which one to unfeature. It's between Oakmount and Alpha Wolf. I'm not sure Alpha Wolf represents horror as well as Oakmount does.

The Secret of Daphne

I like to point out that there's no shame in having a "Previously Featured" Star on a Story...

The Secret of Daphne

I think Oakmount should be unfeatured. It just wasn't a captivating story in my opinion.

The Secret of Daphne

To be fair the horror category right now is more things involving horror rather than actually being scary.

I'd be fine with Alpha Wolf being unfeatured too though. Either or seems fine.

Spoiler Alert:

Did anybody figure out the number problem in the Barn room? I found the book on numberism (or whatever it's called) in the library and tried that, then I noticed that the first two sequences of numbers on the desk corolate with some sequences of numbers in the newspaper (for example the first sequence is the date the newspaper article was published). I also noticed that second and third sequences simply removed numbers from the ones before it. However, in spite of this, my guesses still didn't work out.

The Secret of Daphne

I was given help by sabley, from what I've seen it gets very confusing. The name is Edia? and the actual # was 5491 I believe. Originally the numbers were a bit screwd up.

To solve it you'd add the first group of # togheter and getting a single digit. The final # was 4 digits.

The Secret of Daphne

Yeah, where I went wrong was adding all the sequences together.

The Secret of Daphne

Yeah that was what I was confused about originally.

The Secret of Daphne

I'm about to message you how to get the numbers. But, Aman's answers are correct. :)
