OK I played through it. Here are my thoughts ...
First, the player does not need to see an explanation of variables. Like chapters, variables work behind the scenes to enhance play. All Players should know is that some games, you mave HEALTH, some games you hae SCORE, otehrs MONEY, etc.
Second, the HOW TO should be a game itself, but have explanatory text built in. It's a bit dry right now explaining the concepts of variables, end game links, etc.
These basic concepts should be conveyed to the user, but in a fun, game-like way:
- MAG Games consist of Pages, Links, and Items
- Sometimes, links are Clickable, Unclickable, and Hidden
- Items can be Used and Dropped
I would suggest starting over, and going with a simple little story with a puzzle that requires the player to USE items, especially two Items at once. I think what you have is good, but it would probably be more appropriate for Authors who are curious at what features games can have.
