Ben's motivational thread

Might as well join the trend of posting motivational thread thingys on here. I'm currently making little to no progress on any of my story games on here, so here's hoping making this thread will go some way to encouraging me to actually work on them.

There are three games I'm currently working on:

1. Welcome to Earf: My main focus at the moment; it's a light hearted sci-fi adventure that was meant to be a fairly quick first story for me to complete on here. Seven months in and I've written four pages, so progress is going swimmingly.

2. Port Paradise: Set in the fictional city of Port Paradise, this follows a young pirate on various misadventures. I first created this game when I originally joined the site in 2013, with the intention of it being an epic masterpiece as big as the likes of Eternal or A Game of Life and Death. Quickly realising it was much too big a project for a newbie it caused me to give up on this site before I returned a few months ago. The plan is to try returning to this once Welcome to Earf is finished.

3. Generic Fantasy Dungeon RPG (Title subject to change): Poking fun at fantasy rpg stereotypes, this is more me just fiddling around with the advanced editor and trying to teach myself scripting than an actual project, so it will be a while before anything actually comes of it.

I've picked a horrible time to start focusing my attention onto here, as it's my university exam period over then next month and a half, but working on these makes a nice distraction from coursework and revision. If I'm going to procrastinate I might as well focus it on something productive.

So I'm looking forward to Earf. Can I get a countdown clock or something? :)

I haven't got any real deadline on when I expect it to be completed. I'm unlikely to get all that much done over the next month or so, but after that I plan to sit down and crack on with it, so some point over the next two to three months is my guess.

Very cool. Sounds exciting.

I'm admittedly horrible with writing deadlines, but I think the best method is to do something every day, even if it's just a paragraph or a page. This keeps you actively thinking about what you're working on, and even the little bits will add up over time.

Good luck, Ben.

Welcome to Earf:

Page count: 5/???

Page count has only increased by one, which isn't much, but I've aso rewritten two of the other pages and mapped out a chunk of the story arc, so progress is being made.

Bump.

Does this count as necroing? Admittedly its been a little while since I've last made any sort of progress or update to this, since important things such as being lazy and procrastinating have got in the way, but once again I've convinced myself that I'm going to sit down and actually get this done.

The page count for Earf has increased massively over the last three months, from 5 pages to 6. I've also "improved" somewhat upon what was already, after coming back to it and deciding I didn't particularly like some of it. I've also been jotting down notes on another creative idea I've had bumping around in my head for a while, although I'm not sure how likely that is to ever end up on here.

No, it's not necroing. Good job on the extra page, though.
