By any chance did you have item use set to 1 and have it so that when they are used they go to a page: "You can't use the item here"?  If so, that is the problem.  The game automatically gives you an alert box if you can't use an item on a page.  It looks just like an error alert.

If not, can you elaborate?

OK I'm moving this to Bugs and Problems.  Unless, did you set an item drop?  Using the little yellow bag?

Here is your problem:

In each link you have item drops.  That gets rid of the item.  Getting rid of it isn't what you want.  Just have it so you don't touch the item bag on links.  Now, if you want an item to have one use than you can drop the item on the link that it's used.  Otherwise, don't touch that feature.

Also, it'd be easier if you were using PMs.

To your PM:

1.  Go to item drops (where you had that checkbox and checked it) and uncheck it.
2.  Don't open it up unless you are certain that you want the link to make an item vanish there (like if you aren't using it again for the rest of the game)

You still aren't accepting them.

Can you turn on your Private Messaging system?

1.) Go to My Stuff -->  Account

2.) Look for a checkebox that says:  Allow Private Messages

3.)  Click it!
