I was thinking, when you publish your storygame, it could tell you the collective word count of all your pages and then calculate the average word count per page? If you're someone who doesn't write everything out in word or something before you write in the editer, it could be useful.

(if you needed one)

If there was a word counter in CYS, I'd like it to be in the actual editor, not after you've published it as that doesn't really serve a purpose, plus it does kind of already tell you how long a story is on the sidebar along with the rating and difficulty. Also the "average word per page" idea doesn't seem very useful.

Dunno, the current length-system is based off of pages, not words (iirc), so having a word counter would actually be a much better average. No idea how it could be implemented though, so it's a moot point.

The length is based off of links, words per page, and pages already.

So, there must already be a means of measuring the number of words and the number of pages. It shouldn't be too hard to get an average number of words per page from there.

Honestly, I think that, instead of rating the length of the story on a scale of 8, the story information box should display the total number of pages, the average number of words per page, and, if possible, the number of pages in the longest path. That system would be easier for new users to understand and would provide a more informative breakdown of the game.

So long as you're pretty consist with words per page, getting the average isn't much harder than copying and pasting 10-20 pages of your story into a word document, then dividing the word count by the number of pages you brought in.

Number of pages is also easy to get (as you're told it just before publishing).

Pages in the longest path would be rather difficult to do though.

Point is, most of that is easy enough to do by the author if the so desire already.

It would be easy to implement, but not all authors are going to implement such a system.

I think automatic disclosure of page of average words per page (AWP) and number of pages (NoP) on publishing should replace the current ranking system, which takes a great deal of time to get the hang of and reveals very little about the story.

Suppose someone is wanting to read something that will hold their attention for a long time, but can be read in short sessions. A lot of people don't just stop reading in the middle of the page. If the reader could see the number of words on a page and the number of pages, they could easily find a story that can be read in a large number of short sessions.

This is information that should be available to the readers of any story.

Congrats on the 20 points! This is actually done in the new update.
