New Members link on left hand side

Would show up to 10 new members who have joined the site in the last month, their names being clickable to their profile. Would allow a chance to see who's joining and privately welcome them, offer assistance, encouragement, etc.

JJJ is right, he's right about the members. It's probably better doing that with 5 people. But I like your idea Madglee.

Maybe the past five instead. Once we get a whole lot more active we should increase the number.

Yeah, five is cool, I was just throwing out a number - not sure how many join. Well, as we've all been pushing for more advertisements and notoriety for the site, was thinking that being able to see new members would enable us to all welcome them. That would actually cause greater staying power. Someone who sees the site, thinks it's interesting, makes an account, then sort of messes about but never hears from anyone is more likely to leave. In this way, we could say "Hi," which gives them a sense of belonging and increases probability that they stay and produce works.

Furthermore, that sort of link makes people who join feel that others are joining and that the site isn't at all dead. :)

Very true, unless no one joins for an extender period and someone remains the newest user for like a week.  That sort of does the opposite but I see your point.  I want this.
