Anyone read Lord of the Flies? Pretty interesting stuff there.

While I know Piggy represents the voice of reason, Ralph is supposed to be the average Joe, and Roger is just plain evil, I can't quite seem to pinpoint what Simons' supposed to be in this, other than hope. But that's kind of the fires' symbolism already. Any thoughts?

And the rest of the Lost Boys are people with floppy penises for brains. Yes, I know what you mean.

On a more serious note, all I ever really learned from that book was that the world is full of balls-free plebes who can only grow a pair (and a brain, too) when they're lead by someone with confidence and charisma, no matter how shit-brained they are. And because of that, someone has to pay the price.

WHY DID SIMON HAVE TO DIE CRAPDANGIT HE WAS THE NICE ONE. uGGGHHHH. sTAY GOLDEN, PONYBOY, STAY GOLDEN

Yeah, I did a report on it. It was a great book, and i gotta say, percival was freaky

I think simon is the only one aware of whats going on in the island, he says something along the lines of "But i think the beast is US". He knows that everyone is turning all animal instincty, ad their human spirits are totally dying and all. Simon, in a way, is the truth, and when people cant take the truth...well, you know.

He's like the last of the human spirit...

After reading some analysis papers, it looks like Simon died because he represented Jesus somehow, but that's just a college student talking..... I like your explanation better.

Jesus? Really? Well, I feel simon is to human to be Jesus

I dont like when they try to claim characters are representative of Jesus. Cept Aslan. He's definitely Jesus.

Jesus Cat lol

Well, he claimed Simon was a Christ of some sort, because he was ecnouraging everyone to have hope and everything, and he spoke the real answer, but nobody listened to him at the time, and then they all murdered him, so I guess it's kinda jesus-ey, especially since he was figuratively getting rid of the beast by getting rid of the parachute dude and then confronting the pigshead. (Lord of the Flies is another name for satan, and he did confront Satan in the wilderness when he was in poor shape...)

So I guess he's pretty Jesus-ey. More Jesus-ey than most, at least. I just don't get why he was named Simon, Simon's always been a negative name to me, they should've named Jack or Roger Simon...

Simon does have a sort of solemn feel about it...

Should've named him PETER.  Now that would've been rife with religion.  :P
